Fixing edge breaks (edge coming out)

Dear NS

I bought some second hand On3p kartels 98.
After about 5-6months of riding them in the nearby dome i got quite a few edge cracks and eventually the edge started coming out (see pic) now ive tried repairing it with multiple 2 component epoxys and clamping it in a bench to keep the edge in and using glue clamps to apply pressure from the top/bottom. I've done this 3 times already but the edge will come out again after about a week.... Anyone got any other fixes/suggestions?

I welded my edge together 13/14. Not by the book and probably bad for multiple reasons but it worked and got me to the end of the Northern season. I might have slightly lit my base on fire but too and stuff

Cut off the edge the closest to where it isn’t coming out as possible and epoxy that whole section...maybe even prying up the base in that area where there is no edge and load it up with some waterproof epoxy.

Cut it out where the edge stops bending out, set your skis sideways, put some tape on the base, and put some epoxy in it so the epoxy seeps down into the crack. Works like a charm.


here is the absolute best epoxy for ski repairs. Works insanely well.

Anyone tried TIG welding edges back together? a small hit should not torch of the base to bad.

Just cut er out or snap it, should be pretty easy. Snap it upward so there's nothing digging and file down any sharp spots. I'm all for epoxy and there's probably some value in filling the crack as much as possible. However, that works best in the tip and tail IMO. Underfoot will still crack the epoxy and there won't be much left after a rail session. Should still last plenty long if you're only ripping park and don't hit too many icy days.

Go look on TGR if you want to learn. There was a guy like a month ago on the gear forum that shows a killer step by step on how to do it. His edge was compressed and broken and he hammers everything out, replaced the section of edge and base.

If it's bent out that bad you'll need to cut it out, don't try and save more edge than you can, make sure you get it all or it will just pull out farther. Use a hair dryer on the epoxy to push it deeper into the core, it will bind better. If you have an edge starting to pull out, epoxy/hair dry/clamp way earlier when there's less than an mm gap. Use g flex 650 if you can, it's what on3p uses in the factory, make sure it's water proof and has really high tensile strength.

Thnx for all the tips guys ill try repairing it again otherwise just cut the edge and fill the gap and see what works best

It could probably be done, but not many ski bums own a tig welder I would assume

I feel like it would definitely ruin the ski base atleast a bit, welding creates insane heat even with only with a zap I’d imagine

thin sharp tig will let you isolate heat, I will try it out, just gotto kill some edges enough eh
