Ripped binding out

so this weekend i was skiing when i had a mild fall and i then noticed that my binding was still attached to my boot. my heel piece got ripped out and the bracket that my toe piece mounts to broke causing my toe piece to fall off. i don’t see any glue on the screws but i’m not sure if that’s the issue. i was going to take them to the shop that mounted them but i’m not sure i want to go back if it was their fuck up. would i be able to have them mounted in the same spot if i had helicoils put in or is that sketchy?

That’s a failure of the binding’s plastic, not a failure of the mount. If it’s a new binding they should be able to warranty you a new one. How did you fall? Had you adjusted the DIN or foward pressure beyond what the shop had set them at? That plastic is pretty strong and I’ve never seen a griffin fail like this

I've seen a somewhat similar failure on a pair of my Griffons, though it was less severe (only a bit of the plastic rail of the plate cracked, but still enough for the binding to come off the plate). That was on a pair of very old (guessing about 7 years old) Griffon demo plates. Does not really look like a mount issue, more the binding.

when my markers broke the screws stayed in the ski and just the plastic cracked in half. not sure what I was thinking when I originally trusted them to keep my skis hooked on. pretty obvious that just screwing a flimsy piece of plastic to the ski to keep your heel attached is not gonna work

I will say that I don't see any trace of glue present. You can usually see dried glue at least somewhere but I see absolutely nothing. The coloring of the wood in those holes that ripped out does look a little dark and damp, so moisture could potentially be a culprit.

Not to my knowledge. The heel piece breaking could just be degradation of the plastic, though manufactures use pretty good composite plastics. Have they been stored outside or in a shed or garage during the summers? Near either moisture or direct sunlight?

its odd that the heel track broke and then the toe piece ripped out

kept them in a spare room in my house

I guess we still don't totally know what happened. If you got some rot or a bad hole somehow and that is what compromised the mount and caused everything to break then you will be better off moving to different spot on the ski and re drilling new holes
Seems like maybe the binding cracked and then because it is all one big frame deal with the heel and toe attached you turned it into a lever and used that to rip out the screws
If it is situation 2 I would still find a new spot on the skis to re drill because different brands will have a different hole pattern and I wouldn't buy another marker after they let me down like that

JB cold weld that bitch. I had a binding pull out real bad...took wood and topsheet with it. Put a bunch of JBs down when I remounted. Hit the tip of the same ski hard on a rail later that season and the binding sheered off but the screws and mounting plate stayed in...it works.

Just used some quiver killer rescue inserts on a pair on on3p's that i ripped a pivot heel off of that had already been heli coiled. Only skied them one day since the repair so far, but they felt solid. If you drill for the inserts, you'd be able to pretty easily see if the core is actually rotten from moisture or not. That said, why would you ever want to put another pair of marker bindings back onto your skis? That's up there with some of the most catastrophic binding failure I've seen, and I've broken a lot of bindings.
