I need help doing rail transfers

Ya know when there are 2 rails offset from eachother so you can hop over to one from the other? I’m terrified of it and I’ve only ever done one successfully.

Right now I’m in Canada with some of the Forre homies helping them film for their next movie. We found a dope spot that they all wanna do sick transfer tricks on because the rails are not too far apart. I wanna do my thing on it too when we go back to the spot. (We already dug it out so it’s just about ready to go).



I wanna lipslide the right rail, and then where it goes from down to more down I wanna hop over to the left rail. I have pretty much no clue how to actually do that so any advice will be helpful. Thank you

Consider digging that out a victory cause you not transferring that rail

I think those forre boys will have much better tips than 99% of NS but I would suggest hiring a professional editor if you can’t lace it up

its about the rock and hop to transfer rails like that... generally easiest to get it going right off the bat so that when the land on the first rail, your already set up and ready to transfer your energy into the jump to the next. Full commit, bit of rock on your skis from heel of boot to toes of boot, and a big uplifting jump!

Are you really that fucking dense? Maybe you shouldn't be skiing if you cannot figure out a simple concept like jumping off something.

I find it helps to have momentum going across the rail so if you want to transfer to the left get on from the right side

Speed is going to be your friend. Before transferring, I would try to slide the first part and gap the last part after the kink. That will get you used to the hop and should build confidence for the transfer. Maybe slide the 'destination' rail first, also to build confidence for transferring to it.
Other than that, when you feel ready to do the transfer, make sure to keep your eyes on the end of the rail you're transferring to, just as you would for a normal rail slide.
As someone already posted, you are with probably the best crew to push yourself on an urban rail with. I know it is going to be an epic session regardless. You can do it!
PS @dominatorjacques post reminded me, take deep breaths before dropping in to regulate your breathing and try to focus on breathing through the trick. Involuntarily holding your breath is typical when doing a trick, but it tenses your body up and fuels stress. I find exhaling as I'm popping is helpful. Your body is most stable when exhaling.

frontside switch up transfer will be your best bet.

u can practice just making sure your tips get over and on top of the opposite pole b4 really sending it.

The only way I could see myself being able to do that would be to reg on to the left rail and frontswap the transfer.

This would be a hard first transfer. But it’s still possible, I say this in comparison to a regular on transfer because with a regular on transfer you could come in from the right and just smash into it and you use the right to left momentum to transfer you to other rail. With a lip slide, you have to more so go lock and full center then push of the tails and a raise noses to get to the other. If u want practice, go to a rail anywhere that you can transfer. And try to stand on one and then hop over the other and then progress to over to the other (without skis).

Probably makes it easier going right to left momentum with regular on for the actual transfer itself. But lip on inside is probably better for the warmup, cause then you are always warming up with your weight inside leaning toward the transfer. If it’s not right you can just slime off down the middle. If it’s there you can lock and pop across... Warming up with a regular on transfer would be more liable to get tangled up in the cross supports cause your momentum is right to left instead of down the middle as it’d be with lip on.... Left foot or right foot forward? If you are trying to lip b2 left foot then that would be unreal to transfer without front swapping. But if its right foot then you could probably get some momentum and push off the rail and just makes sure your tips get over and snap that b2 around. Idk my home mountain has never set up transfers so best of luck and that would be one hell of a stunt!

I would say practice lip on to the left rail, and get comfortable rocking/popping way out further to the left. I would be terrified of catching my tips with what you want to do, versus a front swap transfer. Personally don’t think I could get enough of a pop out to make it but maybe you have legs of steel and can do it. Either way I think the key will be rocking/popping hard AF to get over to it, if you press off your tails at the end to pop you should get your tips over. Would be a sick shot!

Try to rock a lil and pop towards the rail. In this case I'd try to shifty the noses forward over the rail so you don't catch. Gangsta Gibbs in the headphones will help 2.

Things didn’t get very far for me with this. As always with street skiing it’s much hard than you expect due to extra factors that don’t exist in a terrain park. The main issue this time was that the in run goes across a road. Between the long flat and cars driving thru our snow speed was bad and inconsistent. Combine that with the fact that I am not a very talented skier and I walk away without a shot. The good news is that Joona definitely got some clips on it and Tuukka and Harald got some potential shots . I’m not a good street skier as far as getting shots goes, but I am the best at trying. Hoping I can get something worthy while we are here and get a cameo in their nexf movie.
