Replying to How big of an impact do megatrolls have on political discussion?
some of the things i post on 4chan are so earthshakingly awful you wouldnt even believe things could actually get that machiavellian. But theres the rub. [Edit: i incorrectly used the term rub to mean “silver lining” because i had a dodgy memory of its meaning from my hs shakespeare class. “Theres the rub” means “there is the critical contradiction”.] If you can say something that both makes people vomit but also makes sense in some twisted philosophical way, you can weld a fair bit of power to change peoples perception of things.
But it only really works when you are defending the truth. Defending the truth will almost always lead towards libertarianism, which is a good thing. The reason everybody on cnn and msnbc looks defeated and lifeless compared to the enthusiastic people on fox like greg gutfeld and jessie watters is because at cnn and msnbc they know that free speech on the internet will keep persuading average people that the messages in books like “brave new world” are nowhere near as logical or as reasonable as the messages in books like “atlas shrugged”.
the funny thing though about the whole debacle is that the left wing in america completely deserves to be verbally decapitated by places like 4chan, because they are no more innocent than people on the right, even though the left expects everyone to believe they are all reincarnations of robin hood—innocently fighting for whats right— and that because of this its ok for there to be a double standard of justice between left and right wing.
Spark notes: Its pretty fun being a libertarian trump supporter these days.
