Real time avalanche forecasting

I am attempting to develop a real time avalanche forecasting tool as a part of my degree. It would be cool if NS could pick the location I develop the forecast for. Ideally my program will be able to handle any location so shoot a couple locations out and I will attempt to find good weather data for your area!

I am starting with Washington state and developing something similar to this if you're interested in learning more about this topic! I am by no means the first to think of this but I want this programming skill and it's the final project for this class.

Colorado would make a lot of sense because of the population of backcountry skiers, sketchy snowpack and the fact that we lead the country in avalanche fatalities. Loveland Pass or Berthoud Pass would probably get the most use from a traffic perspective.

Hey OP, how fine are you guys trying to go with this project, meaning what is the area size on a slope that you create a classification for? Most people right now just use he general 1-5 avalanche danger for a massive area however we know that avalanche conditions vary on a much much finer scale than that so your project is very interesting

If you are looking for a site with lots of great data to work with than I would recommend checking out the Center for Snow and Avalanche Studies (CSAS: https://snowstudies.org/). They have a ton of different sensors set up all over Senator Beck Basin outside Silverton, CO. This would probably helpful if your looking to forecast a very fine spatial resolution. Hope this helps man sounds like a very challenging but interesting project!

Also, the organizations founder is a legendary big mountain skier by the name of Chris Landry so thats cool!
