Replying to Muhfuckin powder day
I didn't get an epic pass this year but decided to dump $120 into a day pass at keystone this weekend since all my friends were going. It took 10 hours to get there from Denver, probably 4hr of that was standstill traffic and another 2hr going less than 10mph. Went halfway down 285, waited at a dead stop for hours, checked Waze and saw i70 was reopened then turned around drove 45 miles back and went up I70 instead. $50 in gas just to get there.
At Keystone I started lapping the park because there was literally nobody there and my skis are real shitty for anything but park. It was actually really nice. I would just ski right up to the A51 lift, zero line. Then met up with my friends later and they got mad when I asked if they wanted to go over to that side of the mountain "Its the biggest powder day of the year and you want to lap the park" etc. so of the next two hours I spent skiing crowded (now icy) groomers and in 30 min lift lines cause they shut down the gondola. And no surprise due to the long ass lines I wasn't able to get back over to the Peru/A51 side before closing time.
Why would I want to wait in lift lines for hours, and ski 4 inches of powder on a groomer with hundreds even thousands of other people, when I can just lap an empty park and maybe just enjoy myself. And it's not like there's no powder in that area either...
Don't get me wrong I love a nice powder day at a smaller mountain that hasn't sold their soul to get on the epic/ikon pass, but when it comes to the big corporate ski areas get me tf out of where everyone else is. I paid $120 for the goddamn lift ticket and I'm gonna lap the fucking park
