This is insane... as ski resorts everywhere continue to grow and appeal to a wider audience, is skiing just going to keep getting busier beyond reason? Or is this just a cycle?

BigPurpleSkiSuitI'm curious to see what the effects of this will be, vail is laughing in the back counting money, but will there be a rebirth of smaller resorts perhaps?
friesactually super true, at this point who would want to keep going to resorts and wait in line an hour for each run... while paying $150 for a lift ticket. It’s almost like these resorts have reached the end of their lifespan and something has to change.
theabortionatorIf a place is charging close to 200 amd has lines that long I'd say it def is not reaching the end of it's lifespan. Does it look fun? Fuck no. Does it look profitable? Absolutely
But would much rather ride smaller joints or midweek and non pow days.
friesYeah true, I just wonder if there will ever be a point where these people realize, “why the hell am I paying to wait in line and ski crowded ass runs??”
speaking from personal experience here, my family has been living in Texas for years and stopped skiing in Colorado for this exact reason. Realized there’s places like Whitefish which charge ~$60 for a lift ticket and hardly exceed 5 minute lift lines.
theabortionatorSmart. It reminds me of the spring break type vacation destinations. Places like Myrtle beach etc. Go to a place that has nothing but a ton of hotels and other tourists. Spend your time looking for a spot to sit on the beach or swimming in basically a crowded amusement park wave pool.
theabortionatorI'd rather ride a normal groomers day than a crowded pow day any time. If I never got to ride pow maybe Id be down. If you're on vacation you just gotta deal with it but otherwise i dont get it. People get powder fever. I love pow, but nothing is worth lines and crowds like that. Fuck that
typicaldenverkidThis is why my favorite time of the ski season is post spring break. Most people don't plan ski vacations after this, the average recreational skier seems to forget that the resorts are open in the spring, and its after you've had all season to work on new tricks and skills. Not to mention the softer snow

armchair_skierOcean City is Hell on earth. Thank god all the white trash tourists haven’t ruined the state park with wild horses that’s only like 30mins from it.

pinkcamo1000I would just like to point out this might not be true. Big mega resorts are growing for sure. But lots of small mountains are shutting down or struggling to stay open.
Here's what I see happening: Instead of getting a season pass at their local mtn, people are just getting IKON/Epic passes and going on 3 - 4 ski vacations a year. 10 years ago people would get a pass at their local mountain and go on maybe one trip a year.
Craw_DaddyNever underestimate the lengths that jerrys in Colorado will go to for an instagram photo. I'm convinced most people here don't actually enjoy skiing considering how angry they all seem to be. I had a lady screech at me like a rabid animal in the Keystone parking lot the other day lmao. They all just want to maintain that Colo-brah-bro image on their social media.
pbsmake double chairs and midweek days where the lifties know you by name and you bring them beer great again

GrandThingsLiterally this. Most people don't actually want to ski, they just want people to know they went skiing.
I went up to Sunday River this weekend with a group of friends and they all skied for legit 3 hours before heading back to the airbnb. When I got back, (of course, skied till last chair) they were all talking about how hard they pushed it and how many runs they got in. I just rolled my eyes, and then went to bed early to ski more on Sunday before I headed home.
So fucking frustrating.
No.QuarterSpring skiing is all-time. Nothin like rippin bumps with a good group of homies on a sunny day with minimal lift lines
typicaldenverkidseriously its the best, t shirts, sun glasses, and chilling out at the beach at a basin. Cant wait
typicaldenverkidI used to have an app that tracks your vert, speed, distance time etc. when skiing. I deleted it awhile ago since I would focus waaaaaay too much on numbers and not the actual skiing. And on an unrelated note, I heard that there was a trend a few years back where influencers would fake goggle tans, or just get one crazy goggle burn where they look like a racoon.
CatdickBojanglesWe used to have locals day at my hill. Every Wednesday the mountain was full of camo suits and one piece carrhartts with tons of Busch cans under the chairs. Best time ever.
GrandThingsHahahah to be honest, I always thought goggle tans were sick af...
...until I got one suuper bad from skiing at Breck in April last year that didnt go away for legit weeks. It was so late in the season people didnt realize it was a goggle tan and my co-workers legit thought I had a disease....
