icedwhen was the last time you bought a ski movie op
Dan-ManI mean, a couple good comp finishes could set you up with some nice investment cash.
It was interesting to hear Phil talk about that in the Powell movement today.
as far as guys like Will Wesson. He deserves way more!
Saga. Will Wesson is probably the richest man in this corner of skiing. Unparalleled frugality.
STEEZUS_CHRI5TThis sounds interesting. What does he do for income, how does he practice being frugal?
VinnieFEveryone seems to know how much skiers get paid.. How much DO they get paid? Not talking comp wins, but sponsorship contracts that are more reliable income than comps. I have no idea. Skiing has to be about the least transparent industry for how much athletes get paid.

trifonitchevits because its different for literally every skier
VinnieFWell no shit it's different for every skier, but that's not a reason this information isn't available.
trifonitchevthere is , its called NDA within the contract :D
VinnieFso helpful. Wonder why the secrecy in skiing. In pretty much every major sport all sponsorship deals and salaries are no secret.
Any Norwegians here? They could check the income of all skiers from that country here: https://tjenester.skatteetaten.no/
That would at least give a rough idea for those who are curious.

TheMailManThey get paid to fuck around on skis all day and smoke copious amounts of weed at night (and during the day for that matter)... can't really complain.
DolanReloadedIm pretty sure kelly sildaru and sierra mistyquit make more than most male proskiers.
which is hilarious because i chopped my dick off and can do the switch and nobody has paid me anything

ParryWithAnAThe real pros are all into fentanyl these days from what I hear.
mattypeezusThe real question is if you’re a pro skier, could you form your own company promoting yourself and write off all your non-sponsored expenses???
Saga. This is essentially how they all do it in the US if they claim the income and file taxes. They are usually classified as independent contractors for tax purposes. From our experience the more seasoned and higher paid riders will organize their finances under an LLC they've created. The others will file as a sole proprietor similar to if you were a web design consultant or something being paid for a short term job.
Regardless of filing as a sole proprietor or LLC you can still write off any related expenses for your "job" of pro skier to offset your taxable income.

eheathMany pro skiers don'ts smoke weed. Most "pro skiers" don't make enough money to sit around and smoke weed and "fuck around on skis" in fact many of them work other jobs in the summer to support their skiing career. Skiers used to make more money, but the industry also had more cash floating around. Brands barely need marketing anymore because of instagram and many people represent brands on large stages with zero cash compensation. Basically the system is pretty fucked for anyone trying to be a "pro skier" unless you're a top tier contest skier.

Afghan_kushI hate it when I buy fentanyl and there’s some heroin in it.
STEEZUS_CHRI5TSo pros are having financial adversity because of millennials sitting social media.

STEEZUS_CHRI5THow much money do you get for getting gold at XGAMES?
Is it just a sponsor bonus and a medal?

ConesForBreakfasPretty sure during Olympic years, those with olympic chances, especially once selected to go to the olympics, get much more money. Like in the 2-4x normal range iirc but not totally positive
eheaththere is nothing true about this statement at all. also you dont win money at the olympics
