Loveland and A-Basin

Tell me about these lands , Colorado Ns'ers , If you can please.

Gonna be visiting soon , never been. All I've heard is that Loveland is mostly locals and that A basin is a sketchy drive up . And that Loveland is usually less crowded .

Any runs y'all recommend ?

Loveland may be cold, but at least it's windy!

Both are awesome and wayyy more laid back than other ski areas up the i70 corridor. Loveland pass (the road to A basin from loveland ski area) is really well kept for hazmat/oversize vehicles but it does close often when it snows, so expect to drive thru the tunnel and thru dillon/keystone. Traction law requires snow tires and/or 4wd up the pass more often than not, so be aware if you're in a rental.

The worst part about both ski areas is i70 because there's no lodging to either, so I assume you're coming up from denver. Traffic gets insane on the weekends.

If going to the basin, hit up durrance/jump in the zuma bowl or the spine or slalom off the pali chair. The pali chair just may change your life, so be warned.

Def go to abasin if you want some hella groomer laps it has that, if you want to scare the shit out of yourself it also has that. Lemme know when you go up as I’d be more than happy to show you around

A Bay Pali chair will warp your sense of steep, essecially as a midwesterner. Their triple has some long fun cruisers and access to Land of Giants/Lower East Wall. Great stuff there. As mentioned earlier Zuma bowl has its spots. Love A Bay.

Zuma is sweet right now...if you're going to either the most fun you can have is off chetts at loveland or Pali at abay. Steep bump runs and some sweet drops if you know where to look!

At Loveland, there's lots of the good stuff along the ridge I highly recommend taking the cat once or twice. The headwall next to chair 9 is pretty fun and the cliffs on it have nice open runouts. East and West ropes are decent as far as trees go and there's a couple of cliffs that I'll leave to you to find but also pretty short and you have to traverse out of them. Go left off of Chet's Dream for steep bumps.

At A Basin I usually stick to Pali and Montezuma Bowl. The Beavers are also pretty fun if there's some fresh snow and you like trees.

Anything off the Pali lift at A-Basin is great, drops, kickers, and the snow in the main gully tends to stay soft and creamy like even when it hasn't snowed in a few days. They were pretty crowded last season but they're off the epic pass now so its alot better there.

With fresh snow, you can't go wrong with either. Both are fun mountains with fun people. Loveland has Chair 1 (chett's) with some nice runs for hot laps, Chair 9 takes you to the wonderful ridge with tons of terrain to traverse/hike to. Chair 4 and 8 service good terrain you can really boost down.
A-bay has Zuma Bowl with a variety of things to do. I find the Beavers extremely fun and most of the stuff off Pallavincini is good too.
Both may start off pretty rock hard in the morning and get dark pretty early, but it's not a big problem unless youre a big nerd but you come from the midwest so you're prolly used to darker skiing

1st notch and second notch, as well as shit for brains. All of them are hikes as well as boot packs

Well that was insane . Just skiid this last Saturday and Monday . 2 feet easy at Loveland and then another 2 feet felt like , at a basin on Monday. Couldn't have picked a better time to visit CO. I gotta say though a basin is the best place I've ever ridden .. such good terrain .. you guys have a nice state . Also i70 is terrifying
