What you you think of the new scoring system? I sure would like to see how A-Hall was scored. I mean for all we know judges can just play favorites and we’d never know because there’s no score to back up the placement.

I agree that it was weird to not see scores, you couldn’t tell how the judges scored each jump compared to the others. I had a hard time following how every competitor was doing in relation to each other.
On the other hand, I’ve been on ns for like close to 2 hours now just waiting for the knuckle huck. Can’t wait to see how that turns out and what the homies have to offer.
The rails at the top of the slopestyle course look stale, they're like all down rails. Then again, this is to be expected because they need rails that let them keep speed for the jumps. Just put the rails at the bottom.
Henrik was my personal pick for gold, regardless of the crash. So much more creativity and variation to his tricks. He no doubt would have won if he stuck the last one.
I really don't like the judging format, regardless of them getting it right.
Shout out Tom for announcing the JOSS tribute with the rodeo 5 critical off the knuckle. That shit hit hard.
Also seeing Magnus and peyben compete was something new and also awesome to see, and they really exposed the world to the bunch by both of them competing in a live xgames event
Honestly I wish they would've cleared the kicker for this contest and just let it be a pure knuckle. I know it takes a lot of work to get a massive jump like that put together... but I just think there would be so much more room for creativity if it was an unobstructed knuckle.
I’m liking the idea of just scoring on general impressions. The idea of scoring skiing on “points” is kind of fundamentally dumb. Points lead to dumb shit like “herrrr that’s a .1 deduction”.
however, I’d like to see more transparency on what is leading to the general impression.
I’m sorry, but safety grabbed typical axis triples just aren’t as impressive as wild grabs and strange/unique axis of rotation.
I absolutely hate this Overall Impression shit. It’s impossible for the riders to know what they need to do to step it up. I thought it was just going to be for Qualifiers but even the Snowboard Superpipe Final is overall impression. I’m all for the Jam format but you have to let the competitors know what you’re looking for. It takes all the excitement out of the runs. Do you try the hardest run possible and stomp one or do four mediocre runs and stay consistent? I understand the Knuckle Huck event when it’s just for a gold but this is fucking stupid if Big Air, Slopestyle, and Superpipe finals are all going to be judged this way. At least let every rider finish their first run and then assign scores between runs when the judges have seen everyone.

That and the judges can't trap themselves with a ceiling. Thinking back to the big air where they had to just perfect scores all over the place because the skiers just kept stepping it up.
Numbered scores are arbitrary and can hold bias just as much.... how many times has "so and so got robbed" been said after a competition. Position is position.
The scoring makes no sense for the riders or the viewers. I myself was much more entertained and excited waiting to see scores and how close riders are too each other and what kind of scores certain tricks lead to. While I hope not it seems a way for judges to make placements without having to explain themselves. Although it may not make a lot of sense, putting a quantifiable number on a run is better for both the rider and viewer. Also getting a 100 on a run should be impossible so using the argument of someone getting better than a 100 run shouldn’t even exist.
After watching the knuckle comp I feel like the new judging format simplifies things in a lot of ways. I just wish it was made more clear how they are doing the ranking. With a point system its very clear, like the top two jumps are scored. In the new system its not clear if you are supposed to show variety, spin left and right, or just land one super impressive trick. Almost feels like the new system could give kudos just for trying something crazy like dub off the knuckle.
What could be cool for judging if there was those bar graphs that the fwt used last year for a immediate impression, then after the first round of drops the riders get ranked/scored based off of how their individual runs went. I think RedBull rampage did something similar a couple years back but I forget what year.
It's still a score out of 100, but the numbers are only used for ranking and comparisons instead of an outright score if I remember it right.
I’m surprised we didn’t see more doubles in the Knuckle Huck. They kept it playful but it wasn’t as exciting. Games of SLVSH have had doubles thrown on knuckles before, why hold back on the biggest stage? It’s for a medal.
I dont think ahall's style and strategy was the best for the new format. It will be fun to see him think more about style in yhe next knuckle huck event. He just needs to add grab variety. When is womens x games
I don’t get what the issue was to change it from when vinny / dollo were cleaning up. Throw your biggest tricks irrespective of spin direction, get marked on amplitude, technicality, landing etc...biggest score wins for a single / best 2 tricks.
Tough to see Henrik not make it, but happy to see Evan make the cut. While hedges have robot esque style, he absolutely stomps tricks. He’s due for a podium

Yea, the new judging format is a cluster. You are judged on your total/overall impression across all 3 runs. So if you fall, it stays with you across all 3 runs and is taken into account on your overall “impression” and placement. This is why when guys fall they keep their run going because EVERYTHING they do counts.
In other words, 1 fall during any of your three runs will ruin your overall score. It’s suppressing big tricks, taking risks, and trying new tricks. It’s a progression road block.
