Skis with different skis' topsheets

Is It normal that ski brands make skis with different skis topsheets for pros to ride to advertise them? Like Line did with the ruckus and jed blue waters. Also in Baltic ski Khai Krepela has a pair of honey badgers with a sidewall construction and normal honey badgers don't have sidewalls. I think this is pretty missleading from Line to do.

It makes complete sense. Do you think an average pair of honey badgers, that retail for 399 CAD, can stand up to the levels of abuse given by Khai and other pros?
They still want to advertise the ski so they slap a top sheet on a ski that's differently constructed to still get some marketing out of it.

They are Khais pro model so people will assume that he skis on them and that they can hold up even if a pro skier is using them.

I'm not sure if they still do it but for years Atomic would print the Punx top sheet on all the skis sent out to their athletes because most of the riders didn't want to ride the Punx

yes i do the same but for my helmet by slapping an insane amount of stickers on it until the brand is no longer recognizable

You’ll notice that all of Factions park skiers ride the prodigy topsheet even though about half of them are on candides

it happens but it’s certainly not the norm. Salomon used to get a lot of shit for making foam core skis and making wood core versions for some of their athletes

i don’t think it’s some terrible sin but it is purposely misleading. And I’ve only ever heard of it happening with skis that have durability issues...is that coincidence? Idk

Yeah dude looking back at it I totally see it. It must have been a few years ago but Andy Parry was selling a pair of chronics that had the honey badger topsheet and base. I alsways thaought maybe it was a misprint or something bit it makes total sense. People get the feeling that the honey badger is a strong ski because andys riding it but in reality hes riding the chronic that is made totally differnt and way better. Wack stuff

Skis get custom made for riders all the time. Almost bought a pair of Salomon nfx from an amateur pipe rider, had them done up with more camber, I’m sure companies do plenty of custom shit for pros while advertising other products. Especially for price point models

I do know that plenty of companies have done this before but I can assure you that the only special HBs I’ve been on are samples to try and make us even better for everybody. Other than that I always ride the same ski the public is offered!

I remember seeing Mike riddles old punx in a ski shop, flexing them and being so confused at how stiff they were lol compared to the pair of punx that I snapped when I was around 13? makes sense now
