Replying to New FWT Streaming Format
As I’m sure some of you guys know, the FWT isn’t putting up live streams for the Hakuba and Kicking Horse stops this year. Instead, they’re releasing a condensed and edited version of the competition at some point (they’re really keeping us in the dark as to when we can see it). Personally I’m not a fan of the idea of the new format, but I’m interested to hear the thoughts of the rest of the community. For me, the allure of the FWT is that it’s pure, raw big mountain skiing. No inspection run, just eye up a line and fuckin charge it. The live stream footage being at times low quality and laggy, combined with the excitement of staying up late or getting up early to watch events, really added to the excitement and that raw aspect of the tour that I love so much. I’m worried that now it’ll lose that and feel more like just watching any another ski movie. There are obvious benefits to the riders, video crew, and potentially cost of the event as one commenter on their FB page said (not sure if there’s truth to that though), but does the comp lose some of its spirit under the new format?
