Why can no one actually rip through moguls any more or throw monster backflips into bowls. I know hot lapping a nice rail is fun but watching some of these young kids barely able to turn hitting the park all day are really missing out.

I agree with this statement. I enjoy dropping cliffs and charging just a much maybe more then a day in the park. I will say my skills I've developed over the past few years from park have made me a more complete skier especially ripping lines.

Alta, Snowbird, jackson hole, bridger bowl, and sun valley all have rippers! It is also much harder to film all mountain stuff and people who ski all mountain often times dont like to film as much

Tuesday at A basin, watched a dude drop into the pali main street run, but instead of continuing down the bumps, he cut hard, went UP the pali cornice and aired it out like it was a damn quarter pipe. I was so impressed I was at a loss for words. This was on a tuesday morning. Place was dead and he did that gnar shit for nobody but himself.

They're out there, just gotta know where to look.

I just started following Chris Whatford on the Instagram and holy fuck he might be the gnarliest dude I'd never hear do.

Dude puts out some of the gnarliest lines I've ever seen on almost a daily basis, straight to insta.

Anybody got more details and care to educate me?

yeah he's sick, and if im understanding correctly and you want more examples of his ilk, there are several squaw/tahoe people like that to follow, the area has a wealth of those more old school style shredders (i.e. mostly into blasting sick lines and sending flips)

immediate to come to mind are andy hayes, josh anderson, tyler curle, lynk_nation shoots a lot of them, jared dalen (@skivolutionary, posts total wackjob things like anti-vax stuff lol but also slays squaw). there are more i could think of, PM me if you'd like and i can share them as they come to me

Unfortunately I think that breed has slowly died out. My dad was a great mogul skier back in the day, he said that our spring park days are similar to his spring bumps. He never wanted to stop.

yeah dude, last winter was a banger in tahoe of course, i got so much free entertainment from insta, plus it helped me vicariously pretend i still live there

Very well said. Park skiing is a lot easier to film in my opinion where as the all mountain shredding of style takes alot more effort to film well.

This. The hot doggers didn't go anywhere. They're out there. I see dudes charging outside the park all the time.

I came across a hilarious "letter to the editor" about hot dogging in a 1970s ski mag today.

"Sir: I read with interest your article on Jill Kinmont and hot-dog skiing in the latest issue. Surely Miss Kinmont's 19 years in a wheelchair , and the paralyzing accidents of hotdoggers like Scott Marino and Peter Hershorn - not to mention the countless other less serious injuries that have occurred - would be enough to bring about an immediate ban on all hotdogging. their knees only allow for so much skiing in a season now. that being said, catch a good number of them in the collins liftline at alta on a deep day like tomorrow

I don’t like moguls and I can’t ski them
I mean I could learn them if I tried but I really have no desire to make little turns on bumps that hurt my knees

Skiing bumps is fun as fuck. Just like sometimes you have to bring out an old pair of race skis and just lay some trenches.

I love me a good old fashion zipper line. unfortunately skiers these days are on skis too wide to produce good moguls that you can hammer in a rhythm. Rossi Scratch and a zipper line is a ton of fun

I don't think that's really true, otherwise we'd see mogul comps filled with park skis instead of directional skinny skis.

That being said, a more center mounted ski can definitely help support you if you end up backseat in the bumps. The handful of times I've done mogul comps with actual mogul skis (as opposed to park skis), I feel a lot faster but if you start getting too far backseat you're toast. On park skis it's a lot easier to recover.
