Automatic video playback at start page

Hey,


Since a year or so, the newschoolers start page contains a video that is automatically playing.
So I was thinking if it is really necessary that the video is played automatically? As some of you might know, video streaming is responsible for a huge amount of CO2 emissions [1]. Preventing the video from automatically playing would decrease newschoolers traffic, and therefore also it's CO2 emissions - this way, we could do a little something to save our favorite sport.

What do you guys think about that? I'm not saying we have to remove the video completely, I would just remove the autoplay feature.

We could start smaller and just ban you. That'll lower the traffic enough so we can hit our net zero carbon footprint.

This link is LUL purely a click piece. Zero reference to how Television, Film, Theatre etc use a shit ton of electricity that is supplied by fossil fuels... the truth is that our grid needs to be renewable until we can really make some true progress in renewable energy.

@moe6 how do you think most ski resorts operate? how do you think brands make their product? its all the same concept as this article, using electricity is bad for the environment, there is a point of "need" but our world will always need an enormous amount of electricity, the solution isn't using less (although efficiency is very important IMO) the solution is shutting down fossil fuels and creating a 100% renewable grid.
