Florida ski prod??

I used to live in buttfuck Tampa Florida for most of my life until just recently when I moved to Silverthorne Colorado. I was instantly hooked on skiing when my father took me to whiteface mountain in New York at age 13 and already I was a natural instantly. Throughout the years I would take trips to the mountains and always dread coming back because I felt skiing was and is my passion. Every trip I would become significantly better but never mountain local status. Recently my father moved to the Rockies and we have been skiing every day at A- basin and feel like I have never been naturally so good at something. Football, no wrestling, no soccer, no. But I feel like the universe aligns when I’m flying down the mountain and I reach a sort of higher state nothing not even lsd or meditation has ever brought. I do not like to lie to myself as it is literally pointless and lead me nowhere and I am very honest that I feel like I have a a true natural talent for this Godly sport. I just do not have the advantage of being put on the slopes at 2 years old and pushed down the hill. Still I want to be honest with myself and ask if there is even a slight possibility of making a career out of this. I have a season pass and plan on training out of my mind everyday this season and next. I am mostly freestyle all mountain but love park and love hitting any jump I can. Any advice would be a Godsend on where to start

What kind of tricks are you doing? What level are you at? Do you want to be a big mountain skier or a park skier?

You can do anything if you’re motivated enough. Just know it’s difficult and you may have to sacrifice things like being a full time college student and making good money in your 20s. You will also need to film and compete consistently.

I can do a double black with no issue just not style as like a pro. I can dominate blues and blacks. I only started park a lil ago and have a lot of work to do in that aspect but honestly I’m an all mountain. It’s weird I I can look at a large park jump and be a little intimidated but will fly off a cliff 2 times the size with no hesitation. Thanks tho yea honestly I’ve lived a very interesting life in Florida and kind of been through my crazy ass phase wit partying and drugs and stupid shit but this is the one thing I feel pure about and that I wouldn’t mind taking my time.

I started skiing when I was 20, so it's not impossible to learn quick, you just have to put hours in on the snow.

But if it makes you happy and you have fun doing it then I'm sure you'll find a way!


PS I am not pro but good enough to have a good time on hill and I have multiple college degrees and worked while in school so you dont have to sacrifice everything.

But most ski "pros" dont make a living skiing. Maybe only a handful really do. I'd suggest just finding a job that let's you ski as much as you can and find your path and have fun. If you like competing that's great, but there's a lot more to skiing than competing.

I grew up in Atlanta and came of age during the beginning of the sport in the late 90s.

other than like 2 other dudes , I was the only guy in Atlanta that jibbed

had a backyard rail set up and was hitting urban in Atlanta in 2003.

spent about 20 days skiing out west year on family trips and could ski the entire mountain and had a decent bag of tricks in the park

despite this, becoming a pro was never an option and mind you this was when there were maybe 200 legit pros in the industry and it was a lot easier to get sponsored

today it’s a much more competitive and saturated landscape

maybe you can get in some edits and if you’re savvy maybe you can get a pro deal

but not to rain on your parade it’s probably not going to happen

the path of least resistance is maybe trying to pursue something in skiercross where there isn’t a ton of competition , but I wouldn’t want to sell my soul like that

Not being a dick but no your too old plain and simple. You will never catch up to the groms who are 7-9 years old that already throwing dubs on the daily. We all feel the same way you feel about skiing and all of us wanted to be a "pro" at some point.

Listen man. Not to rain on your parade but I’m not sure if you’ve achieved prodigy status haha. Realistically most well skilled skiers can ski a double black run. Start tossin tricks, develop some style, do your thing. If you get real good throw yourself out there and get some deals

That last part is true. Even guys at revy who where sponsored by K2 worked all summer.

You don’t become a pro skier for the moneyyyys

Dude it’s hard for guys who have been skiing since they were 2 years old to go pro. There are skiers who are probably just as good as your favorite pros who are completely unknown.


Unless you dropped everything and moved to a large ski area and began training with world class coaches and facilities, you won’t be able to go pro. And even then it would still be pretty damn hard.


You should still ski and learn as much as you can while you’re still young though. You’ll be able to spend your 20s cruising with your homies and a nice comfortable bag of tricks. Who knows maybe you really are a natural and you’ll blow us all away.

You're in CO now dude. Literally an international destination for skiing. You may feel confident on skis, but being able to ski a double black means nothing here. Ski for fun, don't worry about trying to get paid for it. Most 'pros' don't get paid shit anyways.

Is that what the thread title meant? Prodigy? Hmmm, yea time to get grounded here.

Sorry dude but maybe this will put things into perspective since you’re a bit newer. When I was 15 I had a double flips down, all off axis spins and flips locked along with rails. I never considered myself a prodigy or even thought about going pro. My experience and understanding of the industry helped me understand my place in the ski world. That was over 10 years ago too when those tricks held more weight. I just competed and made edits whenever I could and had fun, you can too.

Dont worry about being pro, like everyone already said it’s not that glamorous anyway unless your the top .5%
