So as some backstory, I got my braces off about 6 months ago, and I was really excited to get em off because I always just hated my teeth. Anyways, I’ve always had this super irrational fear of losing teeth. It’s always been something that just makes me shutter at the thought of it. I went up skiing a few weeks ago and was just playing around in the park. I wasn’t sending anything huge or trying out new tricks but I decided to hit this rail. It was just a common skinny flatbar, but I guess I wasn’t paying close enough attention or I was just too comfortable, but my skis slipped out from under me and I smashed my face on this rail. The pain was insane and it took me out for the rest of the day. I got a pair of shiners and a swollen nose. I’m absolutely terrified to hit a rail again. What can I do to get over that fear? I don’t want to hit my face and risk knocking out any teeth again because those braces were expensive as hell.
Practice a bunch on other features like boxes and fat tubes to build up confidence. From there to a rail is pretty much the same thing so you can be confident you'll land it or at least know how to safely bail if something goes wrong.
mouthgaurds won't stop your teeth from being knocked out, but it may give you some confidence. I use sisu for contact sports, they are hella nice and aren't too expensive.
I generally try and get up and get a trick or at least hit said rail again if I eat shit. Once you have a hard fall it wakes you up and focusses you sometimes. You're pissed off and you can just go and get it. Sometimes pushing through would help keep me from coming back scared of a rail or trick.
Actually now I probably am more likely to to cry into a beer snd head home.
Also just riding more/more regularly till you're not worried. Confidence through skiing is a good way to relax. Have fun
Thing is, if you didn't look so damn stupid, these honestly wouldn't be a bad idea for dedicated park skiers. Even if you were just to wear them on the odd occasion whilst sessioning a rail trying to learn a new trick or something. I remember thinking this when Gus k knocked himself out, along with knocking a couple of front teeth out.
On another note, T Hall signing with Ruroc was the fcking weirdest deal ever cause I'm almost certain I've never seen him actually wearing one of these
