Skis broke first day out, Who is to blame?

My friend recently bought some 2019 faction candide 3.0's from Evo. He went to Sports Den in SLC and mounted them with a pair of old look pivots. Yesterday was his first day using them and towards the end of the day we noticed the problem in the attached image. My question is, how should we go about getting refunded. Should we try and get the shop to help us get this resolved or should we just speak to Faction or Evo directly?

First off, you don't magically get a full refund, that's not how warranties work. Contact Evo, send the skis into Evo and they will file a warranty claim with Faction and they will either replace or refund you for the skis. That's up to the manufacturer.

In this case I am guessing Evo would take the hit on the front end and sort it out with Faction themselves. That’s just good customer service

I was always jealous of my buddy's brand new Factions each year until I realized it was because he had to go through the warranty process for them every single year haha

Great customer service though!

I have a friend whos libtecs broke and he was on the phone every night for a week screaming at them. He eventually got a 750$ credit because of some liability shit and bought magnuses. It was a lot of work for him but he ended up profiting lol.

I loved my candide 3.0's but I broke three pairs and sold the fourth to get the prodigy 4.0's. Faction was great to deal with and when they didn't have stock of my size I just spoke with my local shop who stocked them at the time and they communicated with faction to get me set up. So far the prodigy 4.0 has been bombproof and is my daily driver in Utah.

I'm convinced the candide line is terrible in terms of durability but the rest of factions skis are probs good to go

I have a pair of Candide 1.0s from 4 years ago and they have stood the test of time. They’ve been beat to shit by urban and park skiing and I have no more than some top sheet chips on them. The edges and bases are pristine and I don’t have any sort of delam. I just got new CT 3.0s this year and skied then 3 full days, they look factory new. People need to stop hating, Faction is stepping their durability game WAY up and their customer service is exceptional.

do yourself a favor and warranty them for a new pair, then sell em. Last year's CT skis were complete garbage (and this years 1.0/2.0)

Evo will take care of you. Just bring them there with your proof of purchase and they'll swap to a different ski and they will send the ski back to faction and get a new one for stock. This happens often and Evo wont be surprised by your situation. Do not under any circumstance yell or act like a tool. Just ask them what can they do and let them know there is a warranty. That doesnt look like any kind of "impact damage" and more like core failure so it should be covered without issue. Evo may even let you swap brands to something comparable if they dont have your size in a direct replacement from faction.

Same thing happened to mine under the toe piece. Didn't notice till I pulled them out of the car the next day. Bought mine used though so am just going to try and get them to send me a sweatshirt at least.

I want to believe that factions are durable good skis but there are so many pics and stories of broken factions on this site dude, it can't just be some coincidence

I’m not saying it’s some coincidence or anything, just based on my experience they’ve been just as durable as all other brands that I’ve used.

My guide in Verbier broke 4 pairs of the CT 4.0’s in less than 2 months. One pair was fair enough breaking as he pretty much landed on a rock but the other 3 were all under normal shred usage. With each pair he walked into the faction verbier headquarters and they would hand him a fresh pair, no questions asked.

Update: My friend talked to evo and they said they would normally handle the refund process themselves but with faction you have to go directly to faction. He has filled out some form from factions website and he is waiting for a reply.

question: why do factions break like that? just gauging from the thread alone, theres multiple instances of people breaking their skis, replacing them, having the replacements break, and then finally getting a solid pair. is it their core construction?

Imagine, my Candides 5.0 have these issues both at tips and tails on BOTH SKIS. I laughed out so hard when I saw that. Tip and tail sidewall material looks more like styrofoam than abs plastic

I still have mine, they are wall skis now, but they have 3 actual rivets in the tip lol

Im just saying ski construction wise, they are basically identical in materials and construction. also lets not forget reliability, or lack there of.
