Owen Dahlberg is out in St. Paul Minnesota right now filming street and all of his camera equipment was just stolen from his AirBnB while he and the boys were asleep. PRing made a GoFundMe to try and recoup the lost costs of his gear and get a camera back in his hands so that he can finish the trip filming. Damn that fucking blows. This might be a controversial opinion.... but I feel like Hunter/AHall/ all the various dudes he's filmed should help him out here? I imagine AHall is sitting on a pretty nice chunk of change from the past year.


I'm more familiar with the skateboard industry but filmers are treated like absolute shite, are hardly compensated for their work, and oftentimes aren't paid at all. The most famous skate filmers get by by doing contract work or are hired directly by companies (i.e Fat Bill works directly for Supreme, Lannie for Volcom etc.) but most filmers get by thru their industry hookups/free product etc...


Any insight from the filmers of NS?

Im in st paul. I'll also watch CL for them. How long ago did this happen? Within the last couple days?

Were there actual signs of break in and entry of the house?
Or since the crew slept right through it is it possible the host or someone with a key to the place came in quietly and stole the equipment? I mean how did the theif know that there were expensive cameras there? Or were they just victims of crappy coincidence?
Gotta cover all possibilities.

He's just that the people who Owen helped film should be helping pitching in money to help out. I dont disagree, they should help a little, as well as everyone else that benefits constantly by getting to watch all the edits and movies Owen puts out for free. nows the time to show your appreciation

Just because A Hall may have some financial success, why does that automatically mean he should be expected to give money to any homie who needs it? Not saying Owen doesn't deserve it or that it would be wrong for him to. It is wrong though to expect him to do so. I really hope the homie gets fully reimbursed and more for lost camera gear. As a filmer/photographer I can understand how devastating that would be. Something few people realize is how personalized a filming kit is to a serious filmer. Re-gathering every bit and piece is often impossible in the same exact way due to things going out of production, secondhand acquisition, etc. You build a rig that fits together perfectly in your case, and may not work in any other scenario. My point being that I feel for the homie who as previously mentioned from Ahmet, releases a bunch of free content to the internet for our enjoyment. Lastly, I say this as an informational bit only... Meaning absolutely no shame on Owen or anyone else in a similiar scenario but insurance for camera gear against theft is realllyyyyy cheap. Like you can protect $10k+ in equipment for like $100 a year. It's great piece of mind for those who travel and are heavily invested.

I wonder if they would, since if there were no signs of a break in (which sounds likely if no one woke up), then the insurance company would likely blame the owner saying they didn't change the key code often enough or something.

yeah hard to say, lots of variables. definitely worth checking on though

and for anyone reading, let this be a lesson. renter's insurance is shockingly cheap and can save your ass, especially people like us who are commonly poor but have a few key big-cost items

Yea happened a couple of days ago, no signs of a break in and they only took my two camera bags(with everything I owned), two wallets and my car keys. It was super weird I had no idea at first because most of our shit was still there. Then realized what was gone. I sadly dont have any Insurance and the air bnb people are being really wack about it and won't help us out!
I low key think the air bnb people set us up or something. Or we were being watched.....really strange experience

Yea I DON'T WANT to have to ask my friends for money, But I don't have insurance and the Air bnb owners refuse to help. Got no were else to turn. Only thing I could think of to get me back to doing what I love most in this world.

I am really grateful for my friends and the people who have helped out! Its kids like them that keep this industry going.

That absolutely blows. Not very Minnesota Nice of them.
That confirms My feeling that they were involved somehow. No signs of break in/disturbance of the place and selective theft and shady folks. Hopefully you found a different/better place to stay and put in a police report. Also if there were any credit/debit cards in those wallets check the accounts for suspicious activity might be able to track down the scumbags if they're using them. I dont know much about Airbnb - never used it. I wonder if you can leave bad reviews for those hosts.
I checked CL, FB, and ebay so far nothing within 200 mile radius that looks like the cameras in your IG story. With the one being blue and the other with the 1817 sticker they should stick out like a sore thumb if they turn up online. If youre still in town let us know if you need anything.

Damn sorry havent logged on in a while and see all these replys.

I wasnt trying to suggest that this should be fully paid for by AHall or the other pro's Owen shoots, I was just curious how these type of things play out in the ski industry.

I do think that it's important for the consumer to pitch in and support the projects/people they believe in. For example, I had no problem contributing new LTC Van's kickstarter. Was more than happy to throw them some money after all the joy/inspiration they've brought me over the years.

That said, I still do feel that someone like AHall (again, just using him as an example of a successful pro) should pitch in a decent amount (i.e more than the consumers) because he uses that equipment to promote his skiing, which in turn gives him sponsors, which helps him get paid and have a career that allows him to ski for a living. This really doesnt seem like that much of a stetch for me, especially in this scenario when you compare a very successful contest skier, to his filmer who I would guess is less financially stable.

I was just curious to hear how this sort of thing typically plays out in the ski industry as filmmakers as opposed to something like skating where often the skaters themselves are helping to fund new cameras/lights/lenses etc. (Beagle for example frequently references how he still uses equipment that Reynolds has bought for him).
