April Skiing

Dumb question from a dumb aussie... but where's the best place to go skiing in the us/canada in late april? and is there any chance of finding/getting any *pow* around this time? (honestly anything'll do though)

At this time of year you are probably looking at catching the end of the season at Mammoth. Whistler may have some lifts spinning at the peak. Otherwise it’s probably going to be hiking in CO. Despite any of this, it really, really depends on how the rest of the season pans out. All but impossible to predict and lock something in now. Your best bet is to be flexible.

(N.B. I did ski Whis/Grouse during the ANZAC holidays a few years ago, who knows if you’ll get that lucky)

There's absolutely a chance, we got a completely random foot of powder at big white (canada) in early April 2016, remember it like yesterday!
But don't count on it, April 2019 at Panorama (also canada) was constant 10c+ and slush conditions, Just smashed the park all month as the season closed to an end. Simply luck of the draw.

Weren’t a basin and mammoth open til June? Not prime conditions but open ?bachelor basically all summer?

Killington on the ec usually makes it into April

April is one of the very best times to ski. Often it is when there is actually the most snow on the ground at places like Hood, and Bachelor. We ski 12 months a year in Oregon. I did a mid June trip to Squaw and Mammoth once and there was still a lot of terrain in so I’d say either of those are pretty solid and will for sure be open through April

Yeah, late April is usually prime at Squaw and Mammoth(afaik, I've never been but I hear great things about spring and they were open until mid-July last year) if it's a decent snow year. Not a lot of powder but usually plenty of slush and an awesome vibe at Squaw, they're almost always open into mid-May at the earliest.

Late march into april was super fun here in UT last season IIRC. Storms tend to be more wet but its creamy skiing.

Sunshine Village outside of Banff is typically open till late May. Solid place for spring skiing.

Duh fuck? That’s where I ski They don’t make it to April, tho there have been many times they could stay open , or split between skiing and mb but they always close by 4/1 , when they don’t they pay drastically in payroll bc no one shows up this been an issue there for many years

I was blessed with 10" at Squaw in late May last year. Tahoe will treat you right in the late season.

Not that you’d come East but Sunday River, Sugarloaf and Killington all run into May . Sugarloaf is actually pretty prime in April they have a Reggae music festival to.

Assuming you don’t have a pass look for something off the ikon/epic to get good lift ticket deals on liftopia.


Id go for inner BC or Alberta cause that shits too cold mid winter.

Hood, mammoth, Utah.


I skied 27 inches at Alta on April 5th or 6th in 2017.. that was pretty insane.
