Stevens pass, lmao at actually waking up just to stand in line next to people who aren’t even core. Days like this you might as well stay in bed till lunch, turn up at 1 and hunt stashes / hike sidecountry / tour

winter sports and pow skiing really needs to stop being marketed so heavily as the cool thing to do as well. These big companies selling epic and shit don’t give a fuck about you, they’re just making the sickest places on earth more accessible for noobs just for their monetary gain.

Drailha. never seen silver king with a line like that. was that the start of this season when it was the only chair open or this week when the glory chair was closed? Haven't been inbounds at wh2o for a few seasons now but in terms of the topic of this thread, I have definitely noticed an major increase in people at both wh2o and red on pow days the past few years. Makes me glad that I don't really play that game anymore. On Tuesday when it was storming I went up into my backyard on the sled and literally had the whole zone to myself. Sure, I didn't actually do any skiing, but when there was over a foot of blower ontop of the groomed roads and basically bottomless on the sides, I didn't even need to get into the clearcuts and the snow was over the handlebars deep.

If you want pow and you're not a tourist from the city, there's no reason to wait in those kinds of lineups at the resort. Go touring and find the zones that aren't super obvious, or invest in a sled and your options are limitless. Hell, today it is proper storming out there and I just got back from going to a dog walk that consisted of skinning up a logging road by Cottonwood Lake with the dog and skiing the clearcuts back down to the truck. Now I'm just chillin' at the house watching it snow outside and about to do some baking. I'm sure wh2o was a madhouse today and will be even worse tomorrow.

Whitewater is getting kinda fucked. Although the shot was on opening day, a Friday morning. so Summit was closed. However, last year there were quite a few days like that. I waited 45mins on summit chair last year.
Conditions suck by 11am. One person can track an entire powder hill in a single descent...to themselves. I do have a season pass in case I wanna go skiing and dont wanna hike up.
The Pass is my spot now. But even that is getting filled like a ski resort. SnowFags are illegally entering the Pass skin tracks. We regularly hear sleds buzzing around well know skiing mountains. My buddies and I are searching for new terrain. I found an access that will take you to the Kokanee Glacier in less than a day. We are also searching Valhallas for good tracks. I know this is going to get worse, so Im thinking ahead,

It sucks how expensive they are but honesty sleds are the way to go, especially around Nelson. I can access most of the bonningtons from my house, down cabin/ymir way is great. I can get to my door to Gibson lake in about an hour. Everything up little slocan (Valhalla/Norns/Valkyrie ranges) and the Retallick corridors is doable from the house for easy day missions. Let alone when big red/retallack/valhalla and other cat ops close in the spring and it's a sled skiers paradise.

And a really nice part for me is that I'm still chillin at home with my wife and dog in bed at 8:15am listening to all the traffic race to wh2o for position in line. At 10am I will actually be on my sled enjoying this foot of blower we got yesterday/last night ripping clear cuts and if stability is good enough I'll do a lap on the skis.

Ski resorts/slackcountry and kootenay/Roger's pass are way too popular these days.

Ski on weekdays then. Those noobs and weekend warriors that are buying gear above their skillset, and getting after it on pow days, are what drives this industry. If you're hardcore you should already have your local pow day procedures nailed down so you always know how to avoid the herd.

From mid march through april copper has very few people. A few yrs ago we got 2.5 feet on april 18th and i was wandering around union meadows hoping i didnt run into a mountain lion because there wasnt a person in sight. The pow was so good they opened up the mountain for an extra weekend. Copper in spring has such great snow because none of the accumulated snow melts or even gets slushy until may-june

i mean i dont share the same hate for powder days as some folks here, but no, people absolutely turn out for powder days mostly because of the hype around it. safety is likely a secondary consideration or no even thought about.

Yeah. The tree runs at copper are gorgeous. The high altitude makes the trees a tad more spread out than at lower altitude mountains. Lower elevations have trees too close together unless they chop some down which is a headache.


as far as i know copper hasnt needed any landscaping done to thin thd trees out but idk maybe it has.
