Remounting pivot heel in same holes

I broke the brake on one of my pivot heels, and I have an extra heel so I figure it would be easier and cheaper to switch it out than buy new brakes. Can I just undo the screws and put the other heel in the same holes? Should I just put epoxy in, or do I need some sort of insert to make the old holes work? Is it possible to fuck up?

You should be fine, just go slow and try to line up the screws with the old threads. It is definitely possible to strip out the holes and get a spinner, if that happens you'll have to heli-coil or quiver kill the holes to make sure the bindings dont pull out. Definitely use some ski binding glue or a waterproof wood glue to seal out water so you dont rot your cores

^what he said. Just for god sakes don't use epoxy, unless you never want that heel piece to come off again (well, without a hell of a fight anyway)

Yes, but you can’t call yourself a core skier until you crush your thumb in a pivot heel.

Use wood glue and be careful not to strip threads or over-torque

A good trick when reinserting the screws is to screw them in reverse until you feel them seat down into the old threads. Should be able to feel the screws go up (threads riding ontop of the old threads in wood) and then fall down into the old threads. At this point the screws should be lined up with existing threads

I live all year for ski season , shaped my life around it as much as a man with 3kids and a career that is local can , shitty as it is this season I’m still trying to go every day but I’ll never be that core or manly like it’s probably my worst fear now that I’m aware of it

Yeah man, it was fucking terrifying to see my fat thumb smashed into a 3mm gap. I got really lucky that the bone didn't break, just lost the fingernail for a while. Now I get anxious anytime I see someone being careless with the heelpiece on the tuning bench or even handling the ski by the heel.
