1978 squaw valley tram incident

My uncles big into conspiracies and he believes that the squaw valley tram incident was faked for the insurance money or to get new regulations passed or to get new infrastructure built. Anyone heard about this before. What do u think?

i'm no expert on trams and all but it seems very unlikely that they would fabricate that incident. after an event like that, i imagine there is an intensive audit of what happened and why. so setting it up so that it looked like an act of god to investigators seems very far fetched

agreed it's crazy how lucky the dude was who dropped 80 more feet out of the car and only broke a rib. i wonder where exactly on the route they were when it happened. not a good place to fall

Highly unlikely it was staged. Weather played a big part in this incident. For those involved, I can only imagine being in that car when it happened, that cable slicing through the car(Like the opening scene in Ghost Ship)and free falling and coming to a stop. Sucks that something like this had to happen for them to figure out they needed stricter safety regulations. The old days were cool but man were they unsafe and super sketch.

Its true. The tram incident was masterminded by John Birges, the same guy who blew up the Harvey's hotel and casino on the south shore of Tahoe in 1980

I believe it. I bet it was the same people who cut the cable of the sea to sky gondola.
