So for people who don’t know I’ve been on a desert trip and I’ve been going to certain cool locations around the desert. Been to The Nude Bowl, Joshua Tree and a few other places, most notably Slab City.
Some of you may have heard of it already but for people who haven’t it’s considered the last free place in America. Yes, you heard me right, NO LAWS. I’ve always wanted to go there and visit and man, I was not disappointed when I arrived.
Upon arrival, you instantly see Salvation Mountain (just search up a pic and instantly be amazed), which Slab City is famous for. There’s also East Jesus, an art installation that’s near the Slab City area. Both places commonly visited by tourists and such. So we went there, but we wanted to see more.
So I went to the skatepark. The vibe there is just pure. You’re instantly greeted by a bunch of people saying “welcome to the skatepark!”. They let you borrow skateboards if you didn’t bring yours and you wanted to skate. It’s basically just a giant pool with some cars in it and some other features. There was a bar beside the skatepark called The Handlebar. Quite a bit of people around there were wearing masks and glasses, as to conceal their identity. They were most likely hiding or they were on the run. We bought everyone beers and I got to chill out and listen in to the stoner’s conversations. They were also smoking mescaline, I think so anyways.
All in all, Slab City is crazy and I wish I could live there for a bit, off the grid. If you have a chance, go see it for yourself.
