Ppl don’t know wtf a flatspin is anyways nobody can agree. Some say its like the Henrik “orbital” style and some say its closer to a whackflip/rodeo but either way its not a real trick because a whackflip is just a more inverted rodeo (its set the exact same). And the “orbital” style is just a bio just not as flippy but its set the exact same

flatspins are total bullshit and my goal is to convince everyone to eliminate flatspins and just call a flat 3 a rodeo 3 BECUASE ITS SET THE EXACT FUCKING SAME ITS THE SAME TRICK. Its kinda like d-spin vs cork but at least d-spins are noticeably set different. A d-spin is thrown totally backwards over the shoulders and is a flip whereas a cork isnt set the same and isnt a flip. A flatspin and rodeo are set the exact fucking same its retarded

Doesnt matter if you think a flatspin is orbital or whackflippy its still fucking retarded and it doesnt belong in skiing.

if anyone disagrees with that 1. Fuck you, im very passionate about this and 2. I plan on further proving this one day so stay tuned

This is more for the people that feel the need to "correct" you on a thing that's sort of ambiguous. Like if I comment on a video and give someone props on their switch rodeo and then someone else feels the need to come in and comment "uHm AcTuAllY ThAt wAs aN iNvErTeD SwItCh cORk 5" then I say fuck that guy. That shit is annoying.

theres two ways to set a rodeo. A set and B set. one is thrown forward and the other is thrown back, i can't remember which is which at the moment, either way you end up in the same position half way through the rotation so it's the same trick.

Shit, nobody can agree on hardly anything off axis. It really hit me last fall, when I finally got my shit together and strated learning on a local tramp. Only way to get access was to take a couple classes, and the teacher was hella cool but trained in traditional gymnastics and didn't know what the hell I was talking about. I start explaining rodeos and I'm thinking wow this does sound kinda confusing. So then I go back and start looking for a concise explanation online and realize how little consensus there is at all. Watched hella videos frame by frame and it only further proved the point. Luckily we can all agree on what a misty looks like, so I started there. Anyways, at some point you have to just accept that there is no central authority on exactly what trick name goes with what little spin variation - which hopefully leads you to the conclusion that correcting people on little details makes you sound like an asshole.

I mean there is a pretty clear difference between corks, straight flips and rodeos and I'm not advocating for the abolishment of trick names or anything. I would say those all have an agreed-upon axis of rotation. But sometimes you'll see people throw rotations that are somehow a mix of them or on some really weird axis that doesn't fit any of them and attempting to give that specific weird trick some sort of classical trick categorization is just an exercise in futility. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that people need to stop taking things so literally and personally and if someone describes a trick in a way that isn't blatantly wrong then just let it go because tricks, like many other forms of human expression, are up to interpretation.

This actually gets me going. At this point I call them the same but they are supposed to be different. There's a reason that Rodeo 3's don't exist because they're just lincolns but flat 3s do exist. A flatspin you never go inverted it's a flat rotation on your back (hence why it's called "flat"spin) not a backflip or a flatflip or a backspin. It's a spin where you go flat on your back. A rodeo is a more flippy version of a flatspin. Where you kinda lincoln/backflip and your keep your shoulders coming around. Usually doing a rodeo 540 which is the most popular one. LITERALLY no one who I talk to can get this concept.

And it seems it's more popular now than ever to call rodeos and flatspins different yet the people who SWEAR TO YOU never get them right. This is why we need to agree as a ski community to call them the same fucking trick because the people who say they're different can't even get the fucking differences right. Basically all you look for is if the head goes fully under then it's a rodeo if it stays at the same level as your back throughout the trick it's a FLATspin. thanks

I understand it was half sarcastic, I only said that because truck names exist to directly label things and how they were done. Sure things are open to interpretation but at one point a name for a trick was only meant to refer to one specific way it was done.

As far as your post saying you’re only entitled to label something if you’ve done it (and some people may not appreciate this comparison), how many successful NFL, MLB, NBA coaches are there that have never played a second of pro sports in their lives? Point being, you don’t have to have experienced something to be able to know what is and what isn’t. I’ve been skiing park for 20(+?) years at this point, just because I’ve never done a trick doesn’t mean I can’t conclusively differentiate it from another similar looking trick.

Lastly, it’s the internet - you are allowed to argue anything you feel deserves arguing - and don’t call me sir! Haha
