I've decided that this Christmas I will buy a ski tuning setup at home. Now, I have done a very basic level of ski maitnence at friends houses before but I was wondering what do I need to buy, and what are some things I can skip on? Also if you have any tips for tuning Id love to hear them!
The first thing you should buy is a vice, it makes such a difference just to have a platform to set your ski on. From there you should buy wax and and iron, some PTex candles, and if you want to do tuning get some files and an edging tool. The base edge tool is probably one step farther than most people go, I don’t have one so I can’t do much about base being high or really being able to do a full tune by setting a base edge bevel, but one step at a time.
Vice and iron and wax and scraper and a nylon brush. Side edge bevel. Your base bevel is essentially set when you grind your skis and doesn’t need to be done for a while. Better left for the guys grinding your skis.
