anyone ski the new outsider? I ski an earlier version in the park and like it at 108 underfoot. May not make a huge difference but does anyone have any insight as to whats changed besides the waist width going up to 112? Also, it looks like the odyssey has gone up to a 108 undefoot in the 183 cm size and I may want to get that model instead.
I skied them today on a slushy/crusty Wisconsin hill, here are my first impressions:
My first run down, they felt surprisingly normal. Large turn radius. I'm not good at digging in my skis' edges so I was scrubbing down the groomer mostly but whatever, I don't ski groomers for fun, only to warm up.
They felt fine in the park, didn't feel weird on rails. I prefer wide skis tho so others might find them odd in the park, idk. They are actually awesome on jumps, I landed backseat so many times and despite the rocker I didn't wash out. This was due to the stiffness. I'm still learning butters but the crazy rocker balances out how stiff they are when it comes to pivoting and flexing them on the snow, so if I had decent form then I could get my tails up. They have a bit higher swing weight but I didn't feel like that was an issue; however, it was my first day back, so I really wasn't throwing any spins at all.
As for the rocker profile, I could throw them sideways with ease but I don't know if that's a very unique aspect. I think the profile will really shine off-piste, so I'll wait to ski them in trees and pow before saying anything more about it. For now they just feel like a stiff and wide but butterable ski, very solid.
