Dumbest thing you have ever witnessed at a ski resort
eheathIDK what youre trying to say, but thats pretty outrageous that people have to park on the road at all..
I agree. Just sayin parking last year at the basin was an absolute shitshow. Same with loveland and key but not to the same extent. If I woke up late enough to where I wouldn't get there by 8am I just wouldn't ski.
Took my buddies to a hill with a vertical drop of 230 ft. One guy, that was skiing, hit an orange snow fence because he insists that he can stop and turn, which he cant. My other buddy, which is snowboarding, gets frustrated and decides to take off his board and walk down the hill. Both of them have been to larger hills before.
One time me and a group of about 6 buds were going into these sick trees near cloudchaser Mt Bachelor.. Mt Bachelor is known for its playful variable terrain.. naturally the trees we visited had nice wind lips, natural kickers that came in a perfect line one after the other..
anyways I remember going for this nice little lip that led to a small drop off about 15 feet or so, and all I remember was seeing one of the guys (whom was behind me the whole time) cut in front of me as I was midair (mind you most of these guys are snowboarders so they care very little about how skiers navigate the mountain differently, so I don’t blame him.. he didn’t know he cut me off.. it’s just so common for snowboarders to do this kinda stuff)
Needless to say I choked and ended up landing too far forward I did about 2 summer salts before I ended up in a tree well.. luckily it was spring and the snow levels had gotten to a level where it wasn’t enough for me to sink into the tree well. I was able to pull myself up and when I got out the dude told me it was stupid of him to cut I front of me..
needless to say though we both were the Jerrys of that day.. :D
used to work at a ski in/out condo place and some dude totaled his porche trying to shoot the gap on the parking garage door and took that out along with clipping a pole.

I was at Loveland and this guy failed to get on the chair and got bashed by it and pushed into this big vertical support thing. Quintessential Jerry, big gaper gap, tiny rentals, visibly swimming in his boots, unable to use mittens. But the weirdest thing was that no one in the lift line laughed, it was dead fucking silent. It was so surreal, never have I witnessed a chairlift fail without anyone laughing or heckling. I was really stoned and freaking out because it felt like an episode of the twilight zone.
The lifty had to pick him up and take off his bindings for him. He then tried to put his skis back on with the heel still latched down in the middle of the line and fell forward and almost got hit by the chair again as it swung around. Lifty was piiiissssed
One time I saw this guy coming way too hot off a small cliff into some icy bumps and held it together for like 4 turns after landing and then completely exploded and body checked a chunky frozen bump really fuckin fast. Once he picked up his yardsale he tried to spray his buddy, caught an edge and bodyslammed him going like 10 mph.
A few day later I saw someone straight-lining a mogul run with his arm in a sling and was picking up too much speed and his ski caught an edge and got spit out to the side and rode the last section of bumps completely out of control on one ski. He was wincing in pain when he got onto the groomer and yelling fuck over and over.
The last two stories were me.

Not dumb but hilarious. Dude was riding ski boards and straight lining a very steep groomed run. He was hauling ass for skiboards, probly like 40-45 mph maybe a bit faster. Legs wide apart arms straight out. The classic "baby deer balance completely out of control" stance. He hits a filled in Creek bed and mach 50 and absolutely annihilates himself. He smacked the ground harder than I've ever seen in real life and slides a long ass ways. Skis, poles, gloves, hat, and goggles go FLYING like spread out over a 25 yard radius. Gnarliest crash I have ever seen in real life and the dude gives a thumbs up and gets right back up. I can't even believe he's conscious. Me and my buds still point to the spot once a trip and reminisce about it.

Two seasons ago I ran into some shit like that at snow summit.
Stupid ass snowboarder kids sitting at top of the jump. Cussed them out because it’s so dangerous and inconsiderate to do that. Couldn’t see them until I got to the top.
If I hit them their parents would have probably blamed me even though they are acting stupid and at fault.

Whilst instructing I saw a man in a turban skiing with his boots completely unbuckled. He was out of control (because duh) and tried to pizza at the bottom to stop. He came out of his boots. Boots still in the bindings, turban man in socks. Best shit I’ve seen in real life.
Can't recall anything at the moment that I saw, but I was riding up a chairlift in WV and this hillbilly was talking about how he uses a blowtorch to melt wax into his bases. Definitely takes the cake for best lift ride.

HYP3R_REAL1TYRevelstoke, maybe 15cm overnight. I’m skiing from the gondy to the main lift but decide to cut into the trees just to my right on the way there. Unfortunately some retarded snowboarder was snaking me just behind my right shoulder, I cut into the trees and he eats shit. I can hear him cursing me so I just flip him off. Fast forward to the lift line he spots me and says “watch where you’re fucking going” I tell him he should’ve given way to me. But he’s insistent on throwing down, his friends calm him down though.
That is one of my reasons why I want to get into big mountain touring. People rushing round on a pow day like crack fiends is pathetic. Just relax and enjoy the ment.
Why would he be mad at you when it was his decision to follow you? He could have just continued down the groomer. Smh

Years ago at Breck. I was skiing it up with college buddies. We had been Drinking all day and well, I had to rock a piss. So I did like any clever bloke and spun switch and proceeded to empty the dragon.
In theory. This is not the worst idea I've had. But wind has a way working around an object. And a with turbulence in full effect my piss became a fine mist and covered my pants and skis.
Did I mention that it was middle of a busy weekend day ...

typicaldenverkidThis isn’t at a resort but I think it could fall into this category.
I made the the mistake of attempting to ski on the Saturday of MLK Weekend this past January. As I’m driving up highway 6 to a basin I realize that the entire population of Colorado also had the same idea as me. I was still four miles down the hill from abay and traffic was already backed up. I felt bad for the parking lot attendants since there wasn’t a whole lot of communication it seemed. The parking they had was full, but only those manning that lot knew that. This was before A basin left the epic pass so once I drove by the resort and saw the situation I just said screw it, drove to the top of Loveland pass, turned around and headed back down to keystone.
Here is where the idiocracy comes into play. Some folks were so set on skiing at A Basin that even when the parking lot was full, they parked their cars along the high way, which has several avalanche chutes, little to no space and it’s illegal. Some cars were parked a mile or more up or down the road. So to review, they were going to ski the shoulder along the highway to the resort then after a day of skiing, bootpack back to their cars.
Then I saw the highlight of this whole fiasco, some people were clicking into their skis, which did have the distinctive Christi sports sticker towards the tip on them. Then, they dropped into one of the gullies off of highway 6 above a basin. These were steep, technical, exposed lines.
And here were some rentals dropping in. Overall a very interesting thing to watch.

Bumping this thread with quoting your post because this is what Little Cottonwood Canyon was like today with the holiday crowds + fresh snow. We went to pick up my sisters friend at one of the park n ride bus lots and there wasn't any parking left either so cars were strewn about on the sides of the roads and then we were finally able to get up to Alta/Snowbird and all lots were full so people were parking on the sides of the roads and getting stuck and just saying "fuck it" and walking to the lifts. Pow chaos.

I’ve always said us East coasters are hardcore for the pow bc we don’t get any ,1” were like fuck ya but it’s obvious you westerners are the true pow hounds , I’ve never seen a mountain road like that out east , I wouldn’t do that with my car , and fuck it’s time to move snow sucks out east this year and I fear every year there’s gonna b considerably less natura and less opportunity to make man made and sustain it 😢

Yeah its a huge problem, idk what they're going to do but the ski resort lots, bus lots, park and ride lots, are all too small and don't accommodate the traffic the resorts have generated. This is the resorts problem just as much as UDOT and neither are doing much.

Totally agree, Its a total shitshow right now. Upping the bus routes this season didn't really do anything at all because the lines to wait/get on the bus are absolutely atrocious too, carpoolers get stuck in traffic along with the busses so its like the correct temporarily solutions to congestion arent doing anything at all.
Theres like absolutely no where to build larger carpooling/bus lots near the mouths of the canyons either, or to build anything for that matter. Its all getting sold off for real estate which is going to create an even worse congestion issue.
If you have access to UTA then i guess maybe catching the route from olympus cove to the ski bus station would be a decent idea but damn its a pretty inefficient way to commute to the mountain.

afton alps in minnesota maybe 10 years ago or something, there's a little run on the far edge of the hill that kinda wraps around and it's a slim run, some kids were in the woods lighting firecrackers and throwing them at people skiing around this little turn so even if they threw them poorly they were pretty much at your feet every time. heard it from the lift, saw it happen to the people in front of me, i zoomed out and was just hella disappointed that 'bad kids' were being this bad. that's just mean. there's cool naughty stuff you could do there back in the day (ski off one of the smaller chalet roofs, smoke weed in the woods, steal fountain soda by filling up a large cup halfway then putting a small water over it) but these kids went way far. i wouldn't have cared too much if my k2 fujatives back then did get a scuff from the firecrackers, but i would've possibly killed them both if the sego cleavers i have now got fucked from that.
2nd place is a kid almost paralyzing himself (or maybe he did idk) at indianhead in michigan. no poles back when no poles wasn't cool and was wearing one of these type of hats:
was going up the lift, watching him build a jump toward the bottom, intense little jump for someone with rentals but fuck it maybe he knows what he's doing. go up the lift again, i can see ahead that he's ready to rumble (and i think he had family there with him ready to watch in excitement and not warning him this was probably a bad idea), then right when i'm over him on the lift he hits the jump pretty fast and this thing shoots him straight up, felt like i could've high fived him, and he is not staying forward and starts rotating backward a little, at this point it's pretty clear he is fucked and this was not the plan and he did not know what he was doing, and he goes down hard right on his neck in an exactly terrible way. poor kid, tho pretty sure he was fine it was a fucked up thing to see happen.

The fast bus (394? from olympus cove) takes you to 6200S, which is always crowded. If you want to guarantee a seat, hit up any park and ride before the 6200S one.

Little kid is probably about 6 years old, is just trying to have fun, skiing way too fast and cant really stop yet.
I noticed his mom was watching him ski she's standing by the ski racks. I noticed too that the kid wasn't wearing a helmet, which technically isn't not allowed and his moms right there so I just shrug it off as poor parenting, as much as I wanted to say something.
So anyways the kids clearly done skiing and going over to the lodge to stop skiing but he is going waaay to fast and he can't stop in time and slams right into the metal grate staircase. The kid went head first, little guy cracked like an egg.
at that point I the mom has probably already called 911 because it was right in front of her. I radioed to patrol.
I really dislike when jerry's do dumb ass shit, usually foreigners who can barely speak a word of english It's fuckin dangerous and can lead to themselves and others getting potentially badly hurt. Because this incompetent mother thinks oh its all just snow he doesn't need a helmet. endangering the life of her own son, kinda ticks me off really.
But yeah anyways, that was pretty Dumb. Not the kids fault he doesn't know better which sucks.
Plus shoveling blood is my favourite activity by far. Just love it.

I Had just finished building this feature, along with all the others for opening day of the Alley in Keystone A51. Next day rolls around and I'm working/getting some laps in. I'm riding A51 lift watching all the action when I see this jabroni in a blazing red jacket straight line through the park narrowly avoiding death while side jumping all the features. I see him come hauling into the electric box set up, I know he is in for trouble cuz I built the lip nice and low. Alas, somehow his tips clear the boxes by a fraction of an inch, and he somehow lands it/proceeds to zoom away flailing and double fist pumping.
I cruise a lap and get back on the lift, once again surveying the scene. Suddenly a blaze of red appears, and the jabroni is back at it. He's hitting his same straight-line side jump routine, but this time faster after his big victory on the previous run. He "stomps" his first few side jumps at top speed with only minor edge catching and arm waving. He can taste glory, the electric boxes are in sight, full speed ahead. At this point I see the red crusader make a crucial mistake, he hasn't accounted for his extra confidence boosted speed. I watch in awe as his tips slam into the first box, creating a noise equivalent to that of a sonic boom. His body leaves his skis behind as our crusader completes 1.5 rotations of panicked, arm waving, front flip, only to splat with a sickening thud 30 feet down the hill on the in run of the next feature. Shit made it on ESPN Sportscenter if I remember correctly.

Alas, somehow his tips clear the boxes by a fraction of an inch, and he somehow lands it/proceeds to zoom away flailing and double fist pumping.
I cruise a lap and get back on the lift, once again surveying the scene. Suddenly a blaze of red appears, and the jabroni is back at it. He's hitting his same straight-line side jump routine, but this time faster after his big victory on the previous run. He "stomps" his first few side jumps at top speed with only minor edge catching and arm waving. He can taste glory, the electric boxes are in sight, full speed ahead. At this point I see the red crusader make a crucial mistake, he hasn't accounted for his extra confidence boosted speed. I watch in awe as his tips slam into the first box, creating a noise equivalent to that of a sonic boom. His body leaves his skis behind as our crusader completes 1.5 rotations of panicked, arm waving, front flip, only to splat with a sickening thud 30 feet down the hill on the in run of the next feature. Shit made it on ESPN Sportscenter if I remember correctly.
