East Coast Forecasters

I watch the weekly Ski The East "Snowcast", follow the "Northeast Skiology" Facebook page, and "The Single Chair Weather Blog".

I don't have a season pass anywhere and chase the snow where ever it's best, so these type of forecast pages help me plan my weekends better.

But I am wondering what other sources east coasters use to track the snow.

I use Mountain Forecast pretty regularly and find their reporting to be very spot on.

I also like WUnderground weather App.

Of course tracking and monitoring the snow pack is also important - and Ive yet to find a very reliable "Snow on the ground map".

Use NOAA, most generic forecasts get their data from NOAA. But... NOAA can mess up big time, its weather, really cannot be predicted super accurately. Im not some expert on East coast weather patterns, but if they are at all similar to the west you really cant be accurate with forecast past a few (2-3) days

I use NOAA, and also sometimes local news stations have maps with snowfall predictions that you can find on their sites.

Google noaa followed by the location.

theres links to models, mesowest/East etc.

in Colorado people rely on noaa, CAIC (Avalanche.state.co.gov), and opensnow.com.

i think opensnow has EC forecasts and it’s probably a good source. Joel Gratz started and maintains opensnow, and he’s the real deal. The other region’s forecasts are produced by other people/locals so can’t speak to the quality of the opensnow EC forecasting.

All my surfing buddies turned me on to Windy.com

Not more accurate NOAA but its fun af to play around with (and great for hunting waves)

get the app My Radar and play with the layers. add the wind and the fronts. Then you can see low and high pressure zones and can see where a nice storm can come in.

Also Snowathome.com has a snowmaking tool that is easy to use. It’s useful bc it shows wetbulb temps and relative humidity. Both of these help show the quality of snow.

I know some people swear by spotwx.com, you can compare various weather models and from what I can tell it seems pretty accurate
