-6mm difference BSL with pivots???

New boots have a -6mm difference from the old boys with pivots. Will it fuck me up?? Or will I be ok??

Pivots go about 5mm each way so it depends if they were mounted exactly in the middle of the forward pressure range or not

more than likely the arms are going to dig into the sides of the heel of the boot. You wont be able to set the forward pressure correctly and it will release unexpectedly. i would suggest remounting if this is the case

Its weird, Blister claims there is 20mm of play in Pivot 14's. If you look around on forums you'll see all sorts of claims, but most people land around 7mm but everything depends on how they were originally mounted.

Its amazing no one has an actual number provided by Look. How can this be?

I can verify the +/- about 7mm. I’ve literally had to get new boots each year due to other factors.


as the one guy said above, make sure the arms aren’t digging into the side of the heel. This happened to me once. Not good

I do the same. If you know how to fit boots its pretty easy to get them up and running with minimal break in time needed. Just got this years Hawx Ultra 130s because they switched the shell material from grilamid to full PU (and the colorway is way better)

I’m just thinking from a price point - my ski boots cost like 1100 to get fitted (from pulse bootfitters)

I’ll probably replace mine after 1.1/2 years

You would be correct. But a couple years back I tried to skimp and not get foot beds. Got fitted in some boots that were way too big. Went to the local shop and they threw me in a 28.5, no footbed. They didn’t even know how to make one. Needless to say I now travel to slc from Idaho and am in a 25.5. It’s taken a while to know what kind of foot I have and what boot works best, along with flex.

I just did 10mm if adjustment on a pair of fks 18s. Went from my original mount for a BSL of 320 to a new 310. However, the arms are effectively closed out and wont adjust any further. From working on these bindings id say it has a range of 20mm. They are fairly finicky so I can see why it’s hard to adjust and why there are different numbers out there.

I don't know what it is exactly but I ride at 325 and my friend with a 315 bsl can fit fine in my skis when he tightens them all the way.

Jesus 28.5 to a 25.5 is massive. I feel like everyone always says BOOTFITTER but in my experience, which is a lot now, I am able to get things straight better than then reputable bootfitters. They are fine for doing punches, etc, but for getting the right initial fit they are slow on the uptake.

Yea man, that was back when I was an adolescent and the crappy local shop just threw me in a boot.


having gone to different fitters, I try and pic their brain and always ask questions. I finally know what a good fitting boot should feel like with and without the liner. just takes time and experience *shrugs shoulders
