Heated socks

so I’m a wimp from California.. but I moved to Japan for the powder... but damn it’s way colder here.. sitting on chairlifts make my toes numb.

anyone have experience with heated socks? Thermic or lenz? I hate hot tronics because the batteries are chunky junk... looking for a sleeker alternative..

Use the Lenz ones. Battery is a nice size that you won't notice. Pretty good life out of the battery as well.

The heat is pretty subtle. You wont feel the heat per se but your feet won't be cold. I personally like it that way. I used them in a major cold front in Quebec a few years back when it felt like -35 outside and didn't notice cold feet.

The socks are burly as well. Certainly not cheaply made. I regularly ski in them and wear them when going fatbiking.

Overall, would recommend!

A cheap way is to put a pinch of cayenne powder in your socks or boots. Be VERY careful with how much you use though because it will feel way too hot with a surprisingly small amount.

Heated socks are usually bulkier than normal ski socks so make sure you've got enough room in your boot for them. I didn't, but at least they are socks so I can still use them but not in my boots.

I personally like the footbed heating element option better both for fit and heat. The batteries are way bigger though.

Gotta add a layer of icey hot before the saran wrap.

Lol you don't need heated socks. Buy a pair of merino wool socks and a good fitting pair of boots. When you put your boots on only tighten them a little bit, and over the next half hour tighten them more until they are at where you want them. This is so you don't cut off your circulation.

yeah skiing in any socks that aren't thin takes away sensation and ruins everything f that.

I love how people don't understand how other people can feel differently about things. "I don't get cold toes so your toes aren't cold either" what is that?

My feet can seemingly remain below ambient temperature in a warm room and be somewhat cold in 0*C/30F in ski boots. Heated socks seem like a pretty good solution?

not against them if they came in a thin sock, once you have a proper fit and wear a thin sock it gives the sensation and control you need to ski well, there's no going back from it when achieved.

The warmer your core temp, the warmer your extremities will be and vice versa. I know people have circulation/frostbite issues but keeping your core warm helps a lot.
I frequently work in -40 temps, works for everyone I know.

I understand the principle just not sure it works for everyone, it's for sure a good place to start. I'd be fucked if I had to work in -40. I can wear my sorels rated at -5*F? (Maybe -15?) in 15-20*F weather and my feet will be chilly, not like numb just uncomfortable. My hands are fine in colder temps and my head and body can be absolutely roasting and my feet will still be cold. Sucks but that's why they invented heated socks and insoles and all that.
