I just got into skating. Scoot lyfe wasn't a thing when I bmxd. Ive been to a few parks where there were scooter everywhere, and then huge blobs or them together.

Shits crazy. They just go arpund madly like a playground, Im surprised more dont get dozed, especially parks with bikes.

I used to be a sick scooterer, I could bunny hop so high.

One day we made a ramp out of a single cinderblock and a 1/8" MDF because my friend who had an actual ramp moved away.
I went at that shit full gas and my front wheel punched through the MDF and cheese gratered my face. It was gnarly

they make for great weapons when you get into a skatepark brawl. Swinging with a skateboard? You're only as strong as your arm and back. Charging up a power attack from a tornado scooter smash? That's guaranteed to put someone on a feeding tube for weeks. If I were you OP, i'd be worried about voicing your scooter "opinions" near those kids or you will get jumped

for real, if you’re serious about skating not around a bunch of scooter kids you have to find an indoor park/bowl. Idk if I just live in a much more populated place, but it seems like every skate dad at the park has a 3-12yr old on a scooter. Or since I’m old now and don’t sleep, I just go at the ass crack of dawn and skate outdoor parks in the summer when it’s really cold and no one else is there.

Just got back onto my skate board this last weekend after having surgery on one of my knees. Felt good to push around for a bit. As for scooters, they are everywhere but it needs to start with the parents, just like the park on the mountain, they need to be taught etiquette.

This is only true if you're in white boi suburbia. Go into a big city skatepark and EVERYONE is skateboarding.
I wouldn't be worried about the popularity of skateboarding at all.
Sure, scootering's considered cool...if you're a middle or high school aged boy.
I don't wanna hate on people having fun, but it's lowkey annoying and not a very cool looking sport to a lot of people.

It sucks that people tend to pick it up because it's easy and it's what they did around their neighborhood when they were under 10. I mean, if you really think it's the most interesting skatepark sport for you, fine, but I don't like how people aren't willing to put in a little extra effort to get used to skateboarding, blading, or BMX.

I think the whole beef between skaters/scooter riders is slowly dying out and isn't as prevalent anymore as people make it out to be. If you really have a problem with someone at a skatepark just because they are on a scooter, that is your issue.

I agree that it can be pretty damn annoying to go to a skate park only to be frustrated with little kids flying around everywhere with no sense of skatepark etiquette, but often these guys are also on skateboards. While many of them are on scooters as it is a lot easier to fly around MACH10 with handlebars, the issue is mostly just kids being kids and not really giving a shit about etiquette. They will learn someday.

As far as the sport of skateboarding, I wouldn't worry too much about it dying out as many people seem to discuss with me whenever the concept of riding scooters is brought up. Many people who scooter, especially adults or older kids, know how to skateboard and many of them are damn good at it, probably better than a lot of people in this thread (look up jondev or badgerclit on IG for instance, both professional scooter riders who kill it at skating).

Also, while many people may laugh at/not take seriously the concept of "professional" scooter riders, it does exist. There are plenty of people out there who are making money scootering, making money doing something they love to do, which definitely deserves some respect. So while some of us may think "scootering is retarded" or looks funny or "why don't you just skate," a lot of people are starting to see past all of that.

Skating isn't going anywhere and while it can be frustrating seeing kid after kid pick up a scooter instead of a skateboard, and seeing them mob past you with no sense of direction, just try to remember that they are just kids. You aren't there parent, but by all means, if someone on a scooter snakes you, instead of yelling "scooter fag" at them, just talk to them like you would talk to a snowboarder standing at the landing of a jump. Tell them they need to watch where they are going and that if they want to ride the park they need to understand etiquette of a skatepark. Accidents happen, just have to understand when something is really an accident or when it is completely someone doing something stupid or not paying attention (and that person may sometimes be yourself).

i was baffled the last few times i went to skate and saw my fav park Was flooded with 8 year olds flying around in groups of 10+ cutting lines and even dropping into bowls that were being used by people skateboarding, but only one or two people actually skateboarding. I can see how the learning curve of scootering would be easier compared to skateboarding given you have handles and the act of riding a scooter is generally a lot easier to pick up than pushing around on a skateboard.

But i think 5-10 years ago before scooters were popular you generally saw people skateboarding at the skatepark, and (maybe this is just me) i feel like it was much easier to learn park etiquette while watching how people skate, vs the shitshow that can be a large amount of younger kids on scooters with no real guidance.

Yeah I can understand that 100%. Hard to know what to do when a skatepark becomes a shit show like that. Unfortunately I think parents don't realize a skatepark is a skatepark not a playpark. I think if kids learned how to skate while they are scootering they would have more of a realization of the different learning curve, as skateboards are definitely harder to simply hop on and cruise around on compared to scooters. If you're a kid who just wants to get on a scooter just to cruise around and hang out with your friends, a skatepark might not be the best place to go, unless you understand that people are there who are serious about improving there skills in scootering, skating, rollerblading, what have you; and therefor that you need to give people space and sometimes priority over yourself, especially if you notice someone trying something new or pushing themselves on a certain obstacle, bowl, etc. It's tough I guess.

I haven't really had any experience with skateparks that are that overrun, mostly because I feel like at that point people get frustrated enough to spaz out and scare most kids off lol.

If somebody can do a backflip on a pogo stick it's kinda cool. I can't. But it doesnt mean it's a great sport or should be at the skatepark. Scooters arent as bad but theres 0 learning curve. Anybody with 0 balance can get on a scooter and ride around the skatepark first day with ease. The problem is that all these randoms that never would bother to learn a real sport do just that, and the parents push them or let it happen.

It happens on bikes as well with little girls on barbie bikes rollling around but its way bigger with scooter. With skating you at least have to learn a little bit just to ride it around, and you generally pick up some etiquette and spacial awareness in that tome, at least a fuck ton more than scoot kids.

Also scooting isn't really a different spot, its just a bullshit hybrid or bmx and skating rhats massively easier.

Can people do cool stuff on them sure? Should they learn a real sport? Probably. And somebody will throw the "some of them bmx and skate well too". Cool, maybe they should do that instead. Most bmxers and skaters could probably throw down on a scooter as well.

The problem is only going to get worse. Scooting is litterally easier than rollerblades. Parents treat the parks like a playground, scooter kids trwat it like playground, errbodymies having a dandy time etc for the people actually trying to use the park as it was intended.

Hell ive seen 3 wheeled scooter in the skatepark a ton of times now. If you cant ride a 2 wheel scooter you probably should exist, and you def shouldnt be in a fucking skatepark.

Scooters aren't inherently evil, but they bring nothing but bad things and it's stupid to waste tour time primarily riding one.
