Traveling Circus Needs Your Help!

Dear Skiers of NS,

First off, thank you to anyone who has ever watched our videos. At the start of TC, we never could have imagined coming this far and we couldn't have done it without you! TC viewers paying extra close attention over the last season may have noticed the absence of a key player in our series...

Unfortunately, after eight years of faithful service, the Traveling Circus Van has broken down once and for all. We were lucky enough to inherit the original TC Van used, as a free hand-me-down(a once in a lifetime opportunity). We did our best to use it to it's full potential and not take it for granted.

The van visited more than 100 ski resorts across North America and was instrumental in allowing us to produce 61 free episodes of skiing entertainment. It delivered free gear and pizza as part of Tell a Friend Tour from West Virginia to Canada. It visited summer camps in Colorado, California, Oregon and British Columbia. It was skied on, over, off and through. The van died with grand total of 283,482 miles.

As the season starts up, we need your help raising money to get a new van and keep the good times rolling (pun intended). While it was, and always will be a goal to never directly charge money to watch our episodes, we are now asking for your support in crowdfunding a new (used) TC Van.

Troy. Seems sus as fuck that @Line_Skis is going to claim the advertising rights but won't fork up the cash required to keep one of their strongest advertising platforms rolling.

What has all this math told us? It tells us that if Line wanted to "buy" the effects of Traveling Circus, it would cost them $917,000 in YouTube + Billboard Ad Spend alone.

TLDR The implication of this, and the Kickstarter campaign, is that Line can't be fucked enough to fund their Marketing Campaigns or their athletes.

SofaKingSickyou'll pardon me if i don't take that vague sentence of PR-speak at its face. I don't think Line was pulling out the checkbook and the crew said "wait, no, i'd rather crowd fund this"

i'm all for supporting the crew but donating money to an ad campaign is just kind of bizarre, even if that ad campaign is cool and artful and grimey

Your entire post is fucking WACK. Wow dude, Line gets an equivalent of $76,416.66 of advertising per year for a series that has views skewed to the older episodes. You don't know the expenses that line pays per year for LTC but i'd say they are already pretty high. Why don't you go into detail about a fucking youtube series in the age of instagram? I bet the ROI of sponsoring a skier on Insta is higher then LTC. The truth is, none of us fucking know enough about the situation to get an accurate picture other then those directly involved. I'm sure if it was a bad situation, TC would move on from Line and find a different ski sponsor or just stop. For some reason, i don't see that happening.

Season 13 must have an episode where the van gets taken apart and used to build different rails/features. The side of the van could be a dancefloor box, the seats could be used for some creative gaps/trannyfinding, etc.

That continued “...instead of a bunch of corporate logos on the van” which I interpreted to mean instead of getting other sponsors to pitch in. But idk it’s vague

Line owns the Traveling Circus name/branding. So even if Andy and Will got dropped tomorrow, Line could continue making TC videos. I certainly don’t expect that to happen, just using as example to illustrate the situation. If the cast of TC were unhappy with line, leaving Line means leaving the circus.

Troy, thanks for being passionate enough to do some of the math we've been generally too lazy to attempt with Youtube stats.

It definitely all seems nice written out like that, but in reality, no company, big or small is going to pay us standard rates to mess around on skis in the woods with our friends. We aren't pretty girls selling clothes, we aren't bloggers in fancy cars, we are skiers just trying to show our reality in an entertaining way.

As CLQ mentioned, there a lot more costs that go into making TC happen than just the one time cost of buying a vehicle to share. We set budgets for transportation, lodging, food, filming, editing, general trip planning and organization. Every episode is a little different, but Line helps pay for all of these things.

While Line does not a have a budget to fully cover a new van, they do have a budget that covers all operational expenses of a potential new van. This means they pay for all fuel, tires, maintenance, repairs, insurance, and more. These things added up over time combined with production costs are much more expensive than the one time purchase of the new(used) van we are trying to raise money for.

Line may seem like a large brand because it's riders produce a lot of media(and they promote it really well), but in reality, it has less than 7 full-time employees. If you look at many of your favorite ski industry brands you will be surprised how a few hard working people can make a big impact. And yes companies can be owned by companies, but they tend to operate separately, that includes budgets.

Upstate_WillisI know its 30k but Line should really be forking over the money for this seeing it is a huge part of their marketing and in my opinion probably why Line is what it is today. Regardless, definitely tossing a donation in to keep this shit alive... even if Line should Sac up to it seeing the last one lasted 9 years...3,333.00 a year just saying Line.

Line is owned by a multi billion dollar company and they can’t afford to buy what is probably their best marketing tools a new Van to travel around and promote their wears ?? Atomic probably buys their reps brand new sprinter vans.. kinda lame really.. Line skis are cheap asses !

Have I donated? Yes- Support the things you like.

Do I think line and subsequently the company that owns them could shell out some cash? Absolutely.

I think some Tesla trucks with line branding could be in our future if daddy company decides to give away some pennies

I don't use adblock because I like free internet services. Imagine having to pay to use Snapchat or instagram.. That would be our future if everyone blocked ads

AYO!

3pm PST on the TC IG I will be making some statements and taking questions regarding the van and the ski industry form my perceptive.

I definitely going to address some of the criticism we have received along with some insight into the workings of putting together skiing weirdest longest running web series. Mike Douglass has us officially beat on the, "longest running" thing but we got him on the werid!

I don't know why people are being ruthless towards the company that has been feeding tc literally and figuratively for the past decade, none of the hate is accounted for after their first response. Plus think of everything else that is needed to travel across the continent every year not to mention skis and salary. Line has definitely done their part for our free entertainment.

This. Seems strange for my donated hard earned money to basically fund Line marketing. Will the new van graphic wrap have a massive Line logo on it?? I’d rather just donate directly to the skiers involved in LTC. Then they can use the money however they want.

ha yes! there's a prize on there to get your name on it, the van is a community van and hopefully fully funded by the fans, if it isn't, we'll bridge the gap and figure out a way. The show will go on with a van or not, it's just cooler with a van and if the fans want to get their name on it or in the credits or just want to show a cup of coffee's worth of appreciation the guys will be stoked on the compliment / digital high five as 100% of this goes to them (Will's buying this thing).

We will probably have to clear this up over and over again but the facts are a new van is just a part of the financial commitment to making TC happen (for over a decade). Please realize we do in fact pay the crew for the production of each episode. The van died and it's a fun way to get the fans involved and to show appreciation for the last decade+ of entertainment.

GM made a million express vans with AWD. 25k$ Would get you a 2014ish model with around 50k miles.

There is no way they get any worse mileage than a sprinter or a big transit and if you did lose 1-2 mpgs with the added benefit of AWD would it even matter? The 5.3 or 6.0 engines that came in them are proven to run forever and are cheap to maintenance as well.
