First off, thank you to anyone who has ever watched our videos. At the start of TC, we never could have imagined coming this far and we couldn't have done it without you! TC viewers paying extra close attention over the last season may have noticed the absence of a key player in our series...
Unfortunately, after eight years of faithful service, the Traveling Circus Van has broken down once and for all. We were lucky enough to inherit the original TC Van used, as a free hand-me-down(a once in a lifetime opportunity). We did our best to use it to it's full potential and not take it for granted.
The van visited more than 100 ski resorts across North America and was instrumental in allowing us to produce 61 free episodes of skiing entertainment. It delivered free gear and pizza as part of Tell a Friend Tour from West Virginia to Canada. It visited summer camps in Colorado, California, Oregon and British Columbia. It was skied on, over, off and through. The van died with grand total of 283,482 miles.
As the season starts up, we need your help raising money to get a new van and keep the good times rolling (pun intended). While it was, and always will be a goal to never directly charge money to watch our episodes, we are now asking for your support in crowdfunding a new (used) TC Van.
Please check out our Kickstarter and consider donating here:
Damn! Hope Line takes this seriously! Wouldn't have bought multiple pairs of their skis if it wasn't for TC! Hope you guys can find a sick van on the low!
Corey_O132Hope line skis is throwing in some money too!
Thankfully Line covers all operational expenses(Fuel, Repairs, Tires, Oil Changes, Insurance... etc.). Those things can add up over time to more than the cost of the van itself.
Happy to help. Didn't see option for hot wings date with Andy P. though. Keep it real boys. Thanks for all the hard work you put in season after season.
Michigan_SucksPut all the donors names somewhere on the new van.
All donators over $20 will be in the credits of the first episode next year(hopefully we can make the longest TC credits ever)! You can get your name printed into the new Van graphic for $500 and you can even get your face printed on the new van graphic for 2k.
Check out all the reward levels on the right side of the Kickstarter page for more entertaining ways to support!

Good idea! Ask and you shall receive! Thanks for the support and see you on the ropes!
I know its 30k but Line should really be forking over the money for this seeing it is a huge part of their marketing and in my opinion probably why Line is what it is today. Regardless, definitely tossing a donation in to keep this shit alive... even if Line should Sac up to it seeing the last one lasted 9 years...3,333.00 a year just saying Line.

yep we are, we won't get into details but you can chat with the guys about our involvement, we're in a great place with the partnership but the demise of the van was unplanned for. The guys wanted to involve the community in the next vehicle instead of having a bunch of corporate logos on some shiny new van why not have the names and faces of the reason why the series is so successful, the fans. We "sac up" all we can and hopefully if you've laughed or enjoyed just 5 of the ~50ish of the episodes in the last 12 years some true fans would be compelled to say thanks also, 100% of this goes to getting a new van (which will probably be more than $30k)
"For just $5 .. you can make a difference in the lives of ski bums who really don't want to get real jobs" (cue the Sarah McLachlan music)
Malczyksomeone, please buy the steering wheel. we're working on what to do next with the rest of the carcass.. any ideas?
If there isnt an episode dedicated to you all shredding the carcass of the van, I will be significantly disappointed.
Also some fun curiosity questions....
1) Who spent the most time in the van
2) Who logged the most driving miles?
3) Worst smell in the van?
4) Who hit the top speed in the van
5) Who is NEVER allowed to drive the van
6) Best trick done incorporating the van (in your opinion)
7) Best unknown van story?
8) Best non-ski related use of the van
9) Where/when did the van remain stationary for the longest amount of time?
10) Any other fun stories?

And somehow incorporate parts from the old van into the new van andit would be cool if there was a way leave a piece / part of it at each stop on the TAFT to incorporate into their parks.

1) Who spent the most time in the van?
Probably Andy, since he used it for TAFT for a number of years and it's a longgg drive to the east coast, but Will also drove it to summer camps for many years in a row and it was based with him in Utah most of the year so it's a toss up.
2) Who logged the most driving miles?
See 1^
3) Worst smell in the van?
Andys socks, Jon Hartmans boots, or a collective effort of farts/BO
4) Who hit the top speed in the van
Many of us. It had a rough limit of 83mph. One time Jack Borland did a stationary kickflip in the back going about that fast.
5) Who is NEVER allowed to drive the van
Never say never
6) Best trick done incorporating the van (in your opinion)
Ross, switch backflip off moving van to sudden stop, or Will/Andy 5050 through the van (both in Episode 9.2)
7) Best unknown van story?
See 10.
8) Best non-ski related use of the van
No such thing.
9) Where/when did the van remain stationary for the longest amount of time?
Andy's front yard, from when it died in fall 2018 till a few months ago.
10) Any other fun stories?
Saving those for the Hollywood Documentary TC: Behind the Smells coming ~2030
tyler1719Donation benefits still included if you Venmo?
Only if you include the same shipping prices in your donation as seen on the Kickstarter page and all info needed to ship it to you(full name, email, address, etc). If it's something that doesn't need shipping, you must still include name and email so we can contact you.
genuine question here,
If someone donates $1000, they get a signed pair of skis, which is a fantastic incentive.
If someone donates $2000, they get their face on the van, which is also a sick incentive, but they get the set of skis too, right?
Damn, I'd donate but there are too many other advertising campaigns that need my money more right now
(no hate to LTC, that's a shot at Line. i am positive that the company can handle some monthly car payments on the vehicle whose primary purpose is advertising your products and is literally entirely covered in LINE graphics)

Id still think line could do more though without major van graphics + idk why this would be a 33k priority
milk_manCan all the revenue from your videos go toward the van for a certain period of time? I can't give money atm but I can keep playing your videos :)
That revenue is already put back into making the videos. Thanks for watching!
That is a Windells Camp Van. They stepped in and sponsored Tell A Friend Tour with a vehicle when the Van died. Traveling Circus is not sponsored by Windells, but we do love skiing there!

You'd hope so??
Unfortunately no. They are separate rewards. We don't have a ton of things to offer and the idea is more of supporting the cause(ski videos) and getting a little something for it as thank you rather than just straight up buying stuff from us at retail prices.
Not trying to guilt Lineskis into pitching in here, but I wouldn't have bought my 4 pairs of lineskis if it wasn't for the TC. Please keep the TC alive

Thanks for supporting and watching! Line will continue to support TC by covering all operational expenses(Fuel, Tires, Maintenance, Repairs, Insurance, etc.) as they have in the past. All of these costs actually add up to more than the cost of the van itself over time.
also not sure how clear this is but TC IS NOT GOING AWAY, this is just an opportunity to get some new wheels out there and to involve the fans in making it as rad as possible. We've supported the guys since day one and van or not, we'll support the creation of the episodes and those involved. -jm
I love the Traveling Circus homies and none of this frustration is aimed at them, but since this is getting crowdfunded, will it be renamed The People's Traveling Circus?
Seems sus as fuck that @Line_Skis is going to claim the advertising rights but won't fork up the cash required to keep one of their strongest advertising platforms rolling.
This bothered me enough, so here's some math, I think this should bother you too. Looking at only video views on YouTube's platform (not looking at views for Vimeo or NS, but we can safely assume this is ~40% of their total views). Sloppily adding together those views from Seasons 1-12, including a few teasers, we have a Total View Count of 6,900,600 (also including a few trailers/teasers. To see this data for yourself, clickhere).
When we look at video analytics, there are two main metrics that we look at: View: number of users who "watch" a video, includes a Duration Watched requirement. On YouTube, this value is set at 30 Seconds Impression: number of users who "saw" a piece of content for any duration. This number is typically larger than the total number of views.
If someone watched a Line TC episode for 15 seconds, then clicked out would be counted as 1 Impression, but not as a View. If a user watched that episode for 45 seconds, they would be both 1 view and 1 impression.
If I watched Orage Masters Pizza Party 30 different times my senior year of highschool, that would be 30 impressions and 30 views.
From this, we can see how a View (someone who watches >0:30) is more valuable than an Impression.
Using their 6.9 mil views on YouTube as a starting point, let's ask the question: if Line Skis had to directly pay for Line Traveling Circus's YouTube marketing effect, how much would it cost?
We have two different ways we're going to run this math.
1) Cost Per Milli Impressions (milli = thousand in metric)
2) Cost Per View
1) CPM is the primary way that ad impressions are bought/sold and typically (your mileage may vary) these cost ~$25 per thousand ads, or rewritten: $28 CPM. Using this math, if Line wanted to buy these impressions it would cost $172,515. Now remember, impressions are the cheapest engagement rate to buy. More folks will receive ad impressions than those who actually view the ad. It would be a reasonable assumption that they would need 10 million impressions to earn 6.9 million views.
Formula to try at home: (6,900,600 ÷ 1,000) x $28 = $193,216.80
2) Cost Per View (CPV) is a strategy that Google accepts to place YouTube ads campaigns. Historically, we've seen these cost anywhere from $0.05 CPV to $0.15 CPV. (Sidebar: that range is the reason why CPV sorta sucks to work with). Google charges more per view when additional targeting is layered in. Granted that targeting only freestyle skiers is a more granular data segment than just winter sports enthusiast (a real Google data segment), it's a reasonable presumption that Line would have to pay on the higher end. Let's use $0.13 as our Cost Per View variable, since I've seen this quite frequently from historical data and it's not quite the highest end.
Formula to try at home: (6,900,600 YouTube Views) x ($0.13 Cost Per View) = $897,078
When you compare Route 1 to Route 2, you can see the tangible difference between the value of impressions vs. views.
What has this math shown us? A few things!
1) Traveling Circus has provided a lot of Brand Awareness and Marketing Value to Line Skis only looking at the YouTube efforts ($172k conservative estimate to $897k reasonable forecast).
2) Knowing that Line uploads Traveling Circus to Newschools and Vimeo in addition to YouTube, we can presume that the efficacy of their Video Campaign is significantly higher than what we've calculated here
Troy, wait! The Traveling Circus Van is also a mobile billboard, right? Isn't there Earned Marketing from that too? Great question! Yes, there is! Now, this one is a bit harder to calculate, since we can't determine how many folks the Traveling Circus van passed on the roadways. However, we can make some rough estimations! I'm using thisdoc from a Mobile Billboard Company for our Quote Estimation.
Static Mobile Billboard Trucks. Average Campaign Costs: $500-$1000 per truck/day (8 hour day). PLUS $775 for the ads themselves.
Let's assume an average of 5 Months per Ski Season (even though we know Traveling Circus starts their season Late September and typically linger around Mt. Hood all summer). We're also going to assume that the van was in a publicly-visable place 45% of the ski season (driving, parked at a ski resort) for conservative estimates.
[{(12 seasons as TC Van) x (5 Winter Months per Season)} x (0.45 days per season van is visible)] x ($750 average cost per day for Mobile Billboard) = $20,250
Now, we're also not calculating the value the Traveling Circus van drove as part of Trade Shows or Expos, where rental for Mobile Billboards experience a surcharge.
What has all this math told us? It tells us that if Line wanted to "buy" the effects of Traveling Circus, it would cost them $917,000 in YouTube + Billboard Ad Spend alone.
TLDR The implication of this, and the Kickstarter campaign, is that Line can't be fucked enough to fund their Marketing Campaigns or their athletes.

you'll pardon me if i don't take that vague sentence of PR-speak at its face. I don't think Line was pulling out the checkbook and the crew said "wait, no, i'd rather crowd fund this"
i'm all for supporting the crew but donating money to an ad campaign is just kind of bizarre, even if that ad campaign is cool and artful and grimey
