No_Gorby_GapLatley I've been seeing a lot of posts about how REI has fucked up some pivot mountings and they even mounted my pivots a few mm to far-right is REI just bad?


There was another thread that someone posted about them, apparently they recommended a 110mm wide Shift brake for a 99mm ski when the Shift brakes are almost 10mm wider than advertised as it is (this is pretty common knowledge for anyone who sells the binding) so yeah Im starting to think that theyre not great

Any shop - big or small, core or corporate - can and will fuck up mounts. Fact of the matter is many employees are seasonal and get little if any training so the quality of work directly correlates to how well the individual wants to do the job.

Unless you know and trust the person drillin your sticks, you just gotta hope they'll treat your skis as their own and that's all there is to it.

had them mount a pair of bindings for me and i ripped out the heel piece out after 2 days of skiing. I was 12 y/o and like 87 lbs at the time. Also just a bunch of wierdos that work there. I called them once and the dude said cheerio and hung up.

Yeah I mean some of the people there are pretty cool but some don't seem to know a lot about skiing

I’ve had a few pairs of pivots mounted at REI and haven’t had any issues. Maybe I just haven’t noticed but there fine so far.

In my experience most shop guys don't know a lot about what they're doing when mounting and adjusting bindings. REI mounted some bindings for me a few years ago and totally paid no attention to AFD. I pointed it out and they were cool enough to give me a credit for a protune because of it though.

Evo thought increasing forward pressure on my Pivots would fix an AFD issue. It will not, and jamming up the forward pressure to try to eliminate looseness in the toe piece is really just ridiculous.

Fuck buying ski gear or service at REI. They want to be the department overlord of the outdoor industry and put all small shops out of business. Pay a little more and support your local shop. The relationship you build with them is worth it.

They messed up the mount on both my fiancé’s skis and mine. Pretty sure they didnt torque down the mounting screws at all. Both the toe and heel piece were loose after the first run.
