What's the difference??

Just wondering. What's the difference between randonee and tele? I keep seeing randonee stuff, and looks like tele stuff. Is it like for ski touring?

randonee is gear for hiking in the backcountry, i.e. bindings with a heel that can disconnect for use with skins

randonee, the heel locks down so you can make alpine turns

so the binding are different. How are the skis any different. It that what the hole in the tip is for, tying on skins?

i think there are very few companies that make randonne only skis. you can mount randonne bindings on any skis.

So I have done a kit if hiking/ backcountry stuff and never needed skins. So what is the point? What are they good for besides protecting your skis?

^are you kidding? It creates friction against the snow so that your skis don't slide backwards when you are trying to walk up the hill on them.
