As I have continued skiing I've received all sorts of advice. Good, Bad, and even Weird. The biggest one that comes to mind was from a buddy of mine whose father is a classic old school skier. Long, straight skis, rear-entry boots, don't wear a helmet, etc. Now, the guy can rip for his age but I remember being told to lean back when skiing powder once when I was skiing with them. Keep in mind that I was on newer shaped, rockered, and wider skis. So what's the worst advice someone has told you?

Same thing my dad told me as a kid too. It was eye opening the first time I got into powder on a set that could actually handle it.
The WORST advice someone tells you is to just go to the very top and figure out a way down.
It sounds super macho, but if you have friends that want to learn how to ski this is surely a way to turn them away from it forever. Skiing is the farthest thing from intuitive for beginners and I think people who learn how to ski at a very young age forget that.

Yeah when I started out I went with a friend who was very experienced. He insisted through out the day that I could handle a black just because he wanted to ski it. I’ve heard of many people who give up on skiing after an experience like this. To new skiers, be careful who you go with when your first starting. To more experienced skiers, understand that learning takes time and don’t rush your less skilled friends.

That’s how I learnt to ski.
As a kid my stepdad gave me 3-4 lessons then due to finances I didn’t start skiing till 2 years ago. To get good I just went to the top of the mountain and was like “holy fuck, there’s only one way down” so I fucking sent it, now I’m pretty good
in my opinion it’s the best way to learn but only for a certain type of person.
Once i was told i could do a 360. Here i am now, struggling in school because I'm always daydreaming about sliding the perfect urban urban rail or hitting a huge backcountry booter, my body is fucked for the future, and the only thing i regret is how late in life i got started

I think that depends on your size underfoot so yes anything wider underfoot will help you float. I don't necessarily think it's bad advice though. Generally everyone is told that. My father told me that when I was a kid. Usually on powder skis, people generally backmount an inch or more you want that lift and don't want all that strain just to stay up above the powder.

while I would agree that super technical lines are definitely achievable without poles; it makes it very Unnecessarily difficult and it makes one look goofy asf.. Poles just make navigating technical spots more smoothe; you Don’t need poles to ride inbounds or in the park I agree that it’s not necessary there but to say that you don’t need poles Anywhere is just wrong

If poles were obsolete, racers would've ditched them long ago. They definitely aren't aerodynamic
ive heard lots of people on chair rides say the same statement of "Skiing is harder to learn but snowboarding is easier to master" or something along those lines which is a total fucking crock of shit. Both sports are apples to oranges and very difficult to get good at in their own right....To be able to ski or ride a snowboard with absolute fluidity takes a lot of time to do so

This is precisely my current state.
Last season I went to get some imaging done at the end of the season because I wasn’t feeling great. Partially torn ACL in my left. Partially torn meniscus in my right. Weird partial fracture in my right tibia. Doing great for myself 😂

What the actual fuck. Literally "make your bindings as loose as possible and tighten them a little bit each time your foot pops out. And since each side of your body exerts different pressure in different places, don't make the skis & heel/toe the same DIN." And not only is he giving this garbage advice, he's giving it to literal 8 year olds. Can ski shop owners be sued for malpractice?
