Has anyone mounted/ridden bindings more forward than center mount?

Im mounting some bindings to a pair of skis that already have one set of holes. The old holes are in the way of my bindings hole layout if i want to center mount them. The least i can go back is about 4 cm which is kind of out of my preference. This got me thinking what if i just scooted the binding forward about a cm over the center line. would this work or would the skis not ride very well. Basically n over center mount.

My guess is back would be better than forwards. You can also mount closer to the old holes or back in the same holes, but you just gotta do something special that I'm not qualified to advise on.

The problem is that the previous binding was a different model so the holes over lap a lot. How close is too close to the old holes.

Check out the TGR forums or do a quick Google search with the buzzword "newschoolers" or "tgr" added to your search. Most threads I've found say >1cm but if need to, no less than 7mm.

Hopefully someone who works at a shop and does this all the time can chime in here.

Can you maybe post a picture of the previous mount holes and where your new ones will be in relation? When you say overlap, do you mean literally in the same hole? Or just close to them?

It would make literally no sense, it's like riding a directional ski backwards. The closest analogy I can think of is riding a skateboard/longboard downhill fakie when the front truck is turnier than the back truck. The back swings out and feels absolutely awful and unstable. I imagine it would be the same principle for skis.

They’ll just be on top of each other. But the toe piece is fine. The heel piece is we’re the issues at. Could I mount the heel piece a little bit closer or farther and then just slide it to match my boot length? Toe piece will still be at the right spot.

I worked with a shop with a similar issue and was mounted just under 1 cm forward from center and I couldn’t notice much of a difference.

I rode a pair that was between 1 or 2 cm forward of center and it was pretty fuckin miserable. Sold em to a homie with bigger boots and they were fun for him

At that point you might as well mount the bindings facing the other way and ride ur skis backwards

I've mounted quite a few skis for Scandinavian dudes 1 or 2 cm in front of center. Can't say I recommend it in any way but some seem to think it has it's perks.
