Roof rack or roof box?

As title suggests im looking into getting a roof rack or a roof box. Im looking at the thule ski rack right now but I was wondering if a roof box would be safer or more secure. Any thoughts or preferences?

i think a rack is just fine, but a box is way nicer if you have the extra funds

I like my rack pretty cheap and gets the job done. Boxes are nice but also expensive.

Get a box. You can fit so much in them. Skis food drinks. You can also use it when it's not ski season

How big is your car?

I have a roof box on my FJ but my Fiesta has rack due to size constraints. The box is wayyyy more convenient and I wished it fit on the Fiesta.

roof box keeps the skis much cleaner as it protects them from the road grime. but if the car cant fit it, roof rack.

I have a toyota sienna so size is not really an issue. What brands of roof boxes would you recommend?

I really like Yakima but I also grew up with it. My dad still has some stuff from the late 80's/90's that he uses.

I go with Yakima for any type of rack including a ski box because all of their products are extremely sturdy

I would def go with roof racks. Roof racks barely decrease my mpg but a roof box drops the mpg by like 5-6 mpg cause the surface area of the front of the box is much greater than the racks. If you only plan on putting skis up there, racks will get the job done perfectly.

I highly recommend a roofbox. I found a Thule Mountaineer on craigslist for super cheap and it's perfect for skis and all other gear I need to haul. Take a look at FB Marketplace or Craigslist and I'm sure you'll find a good deal on a dope box

Roofbox if you can afford it. My car has two of them on it for winter ski trips would highly recommend Thule boxes. Boxes keep your skis safer. I have had friends who have had ski racks and had skis in them get damaged. Boxes can also be used to keep stuff out of the car so your car isn't filled to the brim.

Roof boxes are better imo. I’ve seen ski top sheets and bases fade hardcore from sitting in the sun on a rack.

Box if you've got the funds, I have a Thule XT that can fit about 8 pairs it's dope if you're rolling with a crew, keeps the gear clean which is super good especially if they use salt on the roads where you live

Considering you’ll probably only ever need to buy one box/rack in your whole life id get the box for the better features
