How should I size my park skis?

Hi everyone,

I'm doing a season in France this coming winter and looking to get some new park skis. I'm an experienced skier, and used to be a park rat for 4-5 years when I was a kid, before going to the dark side (racing) for the last few years. I used to ride a pair of 151 solomon suspects, but they're far too small now and a little outdated. I'm 5'10 and a bit (around 181cm) and was planning on a pair of armada arv 86's, but not sure whether to go for 170 or 177. Also not sure about that pair as I've been told I should look for something wider by some friends. Any advice would be v. helpful.

Shorter skis are more maneuverable. It's up to preference concerning width.
As for length, go for the 177s.
It seems like 177 will be a bit of an adjustment for you, but learning to ski with longer skis will ultimately make you a better skier. Spinning will be harder, but if you learn to spin on longer skis you'll be able to spin more on shorter skis in the future if you feel like downgrading. Also long skis look much cooler IMO (and many would agree).

the starting point is your height, and then give or take from there. in your case it sounds like youre a proficient skier, just maybe not so great in the park. i think 177 is the easy call here unless youre really not very confident on your skis

re: whether you should go wider or not, are these skis purely for park? also you were a racer which means you'll prob appreciate the slightly quicker edge-to-edge quickness of 80s waist skis. either way is totally fine though, don't over think it too much

longer skis are steezier, go at least your height in ski length

Thanks for the reply, I'm used to longer skis on piste (my super g set were 188), just wasn't sure for park.

Cool, sounds like 177 is the better call. The skis will just be used in the park/as a day to day piste ski, and I have a pair of 98 width for pow days.

Your skis should be sized based on an inverse correlation with your dick size. That's why I rock a pair of 210cm straight skis from the 80s...................................................................................
