BlumpkinPumpkinIf you count my parents not having the money for me to ski as a kid, then yeah. Now, I hope that never happens
BigboulderrollerYa dude I feel this. So I got hooked on pills for a while and skiing and everything else went hat I love went out the window... life good again. 2 years clean skiing again
SkibumsmithJust curious, no judgement. What caused you guys to be in such financial despair that you weren't able to save up a few hundred bucks over the summer to buy a pass?
Chubz.Last year I was out of work from August to November, couldn’t find during school to save my life. Friend gifted me super old skis and I didn’t make enough to buy new ones, was driving 110 mile round trips 5-6 days a week for work throughout the season so all of my money was going into my gas tank.
this year I had planned to move to Utah and put in a lot of money into a house I was planning on moving into, so that’s where almost all of my summer money went. Car absolutely shit the bed a couple weeks before I planned out moving out and took even more of my money resulting in me not
getting out west.
so now I’m saving up for a new car and buying an overpriced season pass to a tiny ass hill in NY bc my asshole boss on park crew is holding a grudge and won’t hire me back.
Also don’t have mommy and daddy to pay for a car payment or insurance or phone bill or let me use one of their cars. So I’m trying to figure all this out on my own.
Times are rough out here

chiknmcplanksI've missed out because I was making too much money, i.e. working all the time. I have thousands of dollars worth of gear in my garage that I hardly use because I'm too busy with work/family/other "life" things. I've been broke before, but somehow managed to always make it work and skied 10x as much as I do now. It's ironic that I've become the guy I made fun of as a kid. Sometimes I want to throw it all away and just move into a van.

CaseyThe year before last we had borrowed a lot of money against our house to do improvements, on top of having every waking moment of my life booked up with construction projects and contractor follow up, my wife got pregnant and i felt like a dirt bag ditching her to go have fun skiing. The thing about not getting a season pass is like, you’ll never make an effort to get up and shell out 100 bucks for a day pass unless conditions are mint, which means a lot fewer days.
BigPurpleSkiSuitBanker here if you have a home equity loan/line, check your rate against what rates are right now since rates have been dropping very quickly for the past 8 months or so. 2 years ago they were okay, but now it's quite possible you can go lower. Once you've had a home equity for 3 years most institutions let you refinance for no cost as long as it's not an enormous amount where they want to have title insurance on the loan/line. Might even be worth a refi if you have a higher rate on mortgage too since mortgages are now at about a 12 year low.
YeetCannonI find that skiing all winter matters more than money IMO. 20k from a summer working is more than enough to get me a 100+ day season

TRVP_ANGELNope lets do the math here for one season
Cost:
New Gear = $1000 - $2000
Rent = $3600
Food/Car/Gas = ~$3000
Revenue:
Daddy's Income = $5,000,000
Total = $4,993,200
Young_IPMCI get this is a joke, but do people actually spend 1-2k per season on gear?

BigPurpleSkiSuitJoe and Dave are friends
Joe and Dave work in investment banking and make 500k-1 mil a year
Joe and Dave are constantly trying to impress each other
They will take a vacation to your local resort in colorado/utah/california/Wyoming and each rent SUVs to drive through the snow and clog the roads
Joe and Dave will buy the newest gear and spend upwards of 10k on their respective trips.

trifonitchevliterally all the jerrys in europe
best gear, worst behavior and skills
BlumpkinPumpkinBehavior. That's what kills me the most. These people with flashy everything tend to be more likely than not straight douche bags especially in the US. Excuse me sir, everyone who knows what the fuck they are actually doing are silently laughing at your absurd get up.
LonelyYeah just lost the charger to the camera I use to film skiing. Gonna cost 250$ to replace. Fml and my wallet
BoostMaGWhat camera uses a charger that’s 250 bucks?
LonelyPanasonic mdh3

mystery3I might spend a grand for a family of four? But I also spend a lot of time searching for deals and kids grow pretty fast, lucky to get two seasons out of skis or outerwear. This year they just need new base layers so that's good.
TOAST.Sounds like next year is going to be expensive.
