ON3P 5, thoughts?

Didn't see a thread for it, but I'm not sure this one really did it for me.

Idk if it is because I've been binging level 1 movies, but a lot of the shots seemed too zoomed in or the runs were too short to see any scale of how big some of the features were.

I really like LSM's style in pow, and I think it is a shame he wasn't in this edit. Magnus's and mango's style in pow feels like there wasn't a ton of flow. Kinda reminded me of how people ski pow when they don't know how, super backseat and stiff.

It wasn't terrible, but definitely not my fav. I was expecting somethin like Karl's stray dogs or the pyramid gap scenes in ON3P 1, both of which were super tight.

To ski pow the way those dudes ski, they have to be above & beyond the average skier. Doan’s shots were sick. That random backflip Magnus threw out of nowhere after he landed was absolutely fucked..

hate the stoner bunch editing and thought that there was waaaay too much broll but whatever.

Actually loved the cinematography and editing tbh, think it set a great mood. Too many great edits are held back by cookie cutter editing and filming technique. To be fair, I watched while a lil high tho lmao

Wasn't as much of a vibe as 4, not as heavy as 3, just weird. Not a big fan tbh. 4 is underrated, for sure the best one. This edit reaffirmed the fact that pow swerve doesn't look good. Also I hated the super long far out shots of Magnus swerving down the mountain. Those sucked. Overall 6/10 would possibly not watch again.

I think that the swerve-y style still looks great when it come to tricks in pow. Reverts, hand drags, slashes - all of those lend themselves to pow skiing.

Those swerve turns however? That shit does not look good in pow. If you're skiing pow, I want to see you throwing some snow into the air and shit, like even ahmet's no poles turns in Zig Zag look dope.

I agree on the trick side for sure. It seems like swerve would be a great pow style on paper, but how about we don't put Magnus in 5 ft of fresh and tell him to get steezy.

I would say I am generally an elitist prick when it comes to judging ski videos, but as for ON3P 5, I enjoyed it a lot.
It was a good change of pace from your basic- run of the mill backcountry edit. The features were incredible and the edit kept my attention.

i definitely liked the filming and editing, like someone said ^ its nice to see something different in the boring az world of ski videos. i like what nilla does with the photos too. skiing was dope as well, just wish they left out all those bails on the doubles... i wanted to see them land some of the gnarlier shit they were trying

Obviously not at their level, but I thought the way he could get reverts, butters, transitions, etc. mid-line was pretty cool. I doubt it'll happen, but I'd be excited to see what he could put out if he spent a lot of time in the backcountry.

I think mangos shots really stood out. Definitely taking a different approach to the terrain and you can tell he's a very talented skier. Magnus' recent style has been a bit of quality over quality for my taste but I still like it, just not as much as like his style when when he won realski

it connected for me. I can understand most everyone’s criticisms but it was especially refreshing from a skiing perspective. Still deciding if the editing was too forcedly acidwashed but overall thought that the tempo and edit style was really enjoyable. “loose but lit” skiing is slowly growing on me. despite mixed reviews, I wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up creating a considerable wake and influences how people ski pow in new ways over the next few years. new standards

I really wish the swerve style of skiing and pole-less skiing stayed in the park and out of pow skiing. The butters midline and some of Mango's revert tricks were rad but I struggled to watch it with that ridiculous editing and filler content in it. And that ender was trash

It was exactly how I'd expect Magnus and Mango to ski pow. I liked how some of the lines felt like they went in without a plan, and just threw 3's and 1's hoping they'd stick.

A lot of pow ski movies are just slow motion of them spraying powder or a super zoomed in tweak, which is really boring and just feels like camera magic with no real skill or perspective. I felt like I actually got to see them ski a line that I could have access to. No heli skiing or middle of nowhere cat skiing. It was refreshing.

The edit as a whole was really entertaining, their park creativity really gave riding backcountry a different take. There weren't really any huge lines but they made up for it in the variety that they put down from the spine to the quick lines and that quick backie out that Magnus did. There was a lot of different things I haven't seen before in pow and it was dope, I don't think they were going for a traditional backcountry edit.

definitely hit some really cool and unique features that you wouldnt usually see. A lot of broll and weed but i liked the vibe, just fuckin around with your friends in the back country

I liked that it was unique and out there because it fit the skiing. Its refreshing to see some pow skiing that isn't focused on huge lines or epic conditions. This skiing seemed more accessible while being high skill level because the average good skier could hit the same spots but not in the same way at all. Its rad that JNillla had so much creative freedom and one person's vision is always going to rub some people the wrong way

It was definitely unique and I thought there was some really interesting trick in pow that haven't been done. I also think taking tricks to pow is harder than expected and could be why there wasn't anything that totally stood out.

As far as the editing goes though, it really did feel like a trip on the shrooomies

imo the worst ON3P--and a lot of that had to do with music. What makes 3 and 4 transcendent is unbelievable vibe curation through the soundtrack coupled with solid editing and constant heaters. The music elevates 2, too, with that section in Japan. The Travis Scott song in 5 was such a let down compared to Serenade in 3. Would have been 3x better edit with more footy, better soundtrack, and way less of the super slomo black and white shots. Excited for Elnour soundtrack looks much better and the street clips will have some hammers

Jonnie shots were awesome, the only one of these guys that can actually ski deep snow. Not enough Jonnie shots. The swerve style is cool for butters but looks really terrible for normal pow skiing. Karl comes to mind, does the most creative butters/presses but it’s still obvious he’s a super aggressive in control skier that can rail a turn. That shot of magnus swerving a whole run was really painful, just looked backseat and out of control.

ok I've been thinking of bringing this up

what is up with skiers making edits in British Columbia suddenly feeling like they need to have native american music in their edit? JNilla is not the first to do this. Don't tell me it's something about "feeling connected to the land" or "respect" or whatever, cause it's not like some indigenous chief in BC is watching ON3P5 right now and being like "hey! these guys totally get us and understand our culture!"

I think people should use whatever music they want, but it's weird how there is a connection between using native american chanting with footage from BC specifically
