Brilliant idea, prove me wrong

I dont remember if i've posted about this before, but sometimes when you have a million dollar idea you just gotta share it with random internet strangers right?

Imagine skis with some sort of magnet inside, then your boots have magnets on the toes and heels for you to just "click on" by sticking to your skis. Your DIN would be determined by how strong the magnet is.

pros:
no more penetration by your FKS/look bindings
no need to mount skis when you buy them

cons:
binding industry collapses
getting violently attracted to rails when you go through the park
getting stick to the chairlift
ski flex would be killed (maybe the magnet should be broken into smaller slivers)
Prob would need an electromagnet

I think there are still some kinks in the idea but i'm willing to look past them. It's nothing major right?

Couple things.

Electromagnets are very heavy and require a lot of power, and the power supply would also be really heavy.

The force in a magnetic field decreases with distance very quickly, whereas the spring force of a binding increase linearly untill your boot releases. This means that the binding would have to have nearly 0 elasticity because the moment the boot/binding interface seperates even a little, you'd lose a significant amount of holding force.

I dig the idea though, I'm not trying to say it is something you shouldn't think about, those are just the hurdles I can think of. I think it is super rad to get the alternate binding discussion going.

or maybe a steel bolt that goes through my actual foot

Interesting Idea but adjusting din would be a $1000 investment because you either need new skis or boots. Not sure how this would effect the core of skis and their performance but it probably wouldn't be good.

How bout just regular bindings, but then electromagnets on the bottom of the skis that you could turn on and off with a little button on your pole? Then when you do stalls on anything metal, you can click it on and do the smooth criminal lean

These things would be stupid heavy. You need the magnet, copper wire and battery. To hold your weight, they would have to be a neodinium alloy, wrapped with copper. Say you use hollow circular magnet, you have wrap it up pretty densly. The you gotta power it...and you gonna need more that a 1.5v battery.

plus magnets detatch from sliding. Your boots would really just slide off. Pulling them apart is hard, sliding is easy. Movies poorly portrays magnets...

I Love the magnets idea bro. And it’s too bad about the “science” or whatever thats holding it back,

but I too just had a great idea I had to hop online and say...

Ski resorts should put those cameras that roller coasters have in the park! Like in the jump line, or in cool spots and u can buy them later for a ridiculous ski resort type price
