CabbageRustler69This is second-hand knowledge so take it with a grain of salt if you like. But one of my good friends has a friend that used to work there, and apparently she quit because everyone who works there is super bro-y, full-of-themselves, and make it a borderline hostile work environment. Sounded like a bunch of the worst types of people in the industry all working in the same place. It also sounded like they don't take great care of their employees, i.e. poor health plans, comparatively low wages, etc. Sad to see such a cool idea for a company be ruined by corporate greed.
I worked in the call center, both in customer service and later in management, for 7 years. I watched the CS department go from hiring ~60 seasonal employees in 2011 to ~180 in 2017. It grew a lot.
There are definitely loud douchebag bros that work there. It can be pretty clique-y. However, it's unfair to label an entire department because of a couple idiots. There are tons of awesome people that work there, people I made lifelong friends with etc. That CS department 2012-2015ish had a reputation of being a "boys club", but that had substantially decreased by the time I left. Growing numbers called for growing management, and when I left, half of the sales management team was female and the "boys club" was pretty much non existent. The work environment was anything but hostile and both employee and management morale was high, at least from what I saw.
Compensation was (and probably still is) shitty. It wasn't good. However, if you have an issue with pay, there's a mile long line of people waiting to take your job because the culture is fun and the gear discounts are unreal. Its difficult to leave that job because of how many friends you make (and get to work with every day), how relaxed the entire environment is and most importantly, how great the employee discount is.
Regarding health insurance, I didn't think it was bad. I tore my ACL & Meniscus, had my surgery done by the head US Freestyle Ski team doctor and owed under $4,000. That seemed to be middle of the road based on all of my other friends who had their knees done.
