Weight + stability for skis

Maybe we'll eventually see super light skis that are super stable, but that's not really the case right now.

I'd say there are more skis now than ever before that offer good weight-to-stability ratios, but having skied a hundred or so skis currently on the market, I can still pretty safely say that the heavier the ski, the more damp and often more stable it will feel. There are obviously exceptions due to the tons of different aspects of ski design that go into stability and damping, but for the vast majority of cases, heavier skis are more stable.

The most notable exception that I've used is Renoun's HDT tech. Their Citadel 106 and Endurance 98 are really light, but do feel significantly more stable at speed than any other skis I've used that are that light. But even with those skis, they don't feel stable in the same way that a super heavy ski does; it's more that they don't flex / wobble / vibrate much at speed since they get stiffer the harder you push them, whereas a super heavy ski will feel like it's almost glued to the snow. It's a tough sensation to describe. And they're still far from chargers — if I had to put it to numbers, I'd say they feel like they offer the damping of a ski that's a few hundred grams heavier.

I am sure the tech is there to make it happen but is the monetary pay off worth it?

Trust me, if I could make a ski that weighs 1500 grams that charges like it weighs 2300 grams I would make it today and have it for sale yesterday.

I think Luke mentioned above the HDT from Renoun Skis in addition to the biotech that WNDR Alpine is playing around with, so people are definitely trying new materials / tech, it's just nobody has found that revolutionary combination for a super lightweight heavy charging ski yet.

For touring at least, the weight on your skis/feet matters so much more than the weight in your pack. (at least in my opinion, and that of friends I have talked about with this). Could we see skis that have different "modes," where you attach weights or material for the descent that you carry in your pack, or have different meterials for different days, etc? Seems like it would be horrendously bulky/not very effective/a massive compromise, but curious if anyone's heard of some sort of modular system for skis

Had a look at a friends dads quiver, and he had a quiver killer like threaded hole somewhere between the binding and the tip. e sowed me this metal thing that almost looked like a hose faucet knob when threaded in. He said it helped a lot for chatter reduction.

We just got the skis yesterday - First Look going up on Sunday, then we’re getting them on snow ASAP.

Yeah but specifically to dampen the ski around or after it leaves the snow so that you can hold an edge better.
