Help needed to survive the ski season!

So I'm spending the whole winter in St Anton just skiing (not bad right?). I usually ski around 2-3 weeks a season at Ruka, Finland plus an additional week somewhere in the Alps. So it hasn't really tested my body in anyways. Now I will ski for 5 straight months mostly resort off-piste and backcountry. I'll also start to train freeriding so I'm expecting a lot of crashes (crash reel coming to NS in May).

I got all the main gear, avalanche-safety gear and back protection. Thinking of buying booster straps as well. Do you guys/gals have any tips on how I could stay as healthy as possible? Or any gear suggestions?

Is it just me or are euros really the only ones who mostly use the word “piste” idk about any of you but in the PNW I hear more people call it the “groom” of “groomers” than “piste” only really old people on elf tips say “Piste”

Fiber. Eat lots of dietary fiber like a full 28 grams per day if you can.

Do some stretching, run some bleachers to whip those legs into shape, should be a sick winter!

Carboloading works. I used to buy 1kg bags of elbow macaroni and mix in Barilla pesto. Most times I would make too much and also have it for lunch for the next day. I don't think it's necessary for resort days, but if you're gonna be hiking for an extended period of time, sure.


Booster straps are great but make your boots feel a bit softer. I had them on boots in the past and they last forever. My current boots are hybrids with tech fittings and use the softer plastic, so I need all the stiffness I can get. My booster straps have probably 400 days of skiing and have outlived 95% of stock power straps six times over.

Piste is the french word for ski trail which is why a lot of people from europe will say it. I grew up in switzerland and im american but I still use piste and off piste
