What counts as a day of skiing

Every year my buddies and I keep track of how many days we’ve skied to see who can get the most and try to do better than the previous year. That being said, what “counts” as a day? Obviously spending the day at your local hill or mountain does. But what about days when you don’t have that time or the resorts are closed? Does hiking your ass 5 miles up one of the volcanos here in the PNW just to get a handful of turns or maybe build a jump to session it count? Or what about sessioning rails in the backyard with a winch for a bit after work or finding some urban hit to play on? What does everyone think and how “long” do you have to ski? Does just having them on you feet count or does it need to be an hour plus to call it a “day skied”?

Tricky because IMO it's just a figure of speech so you could go exclusively at night and still say that you have days skied

Any time within the 24 hour period of a day spent skiing, even if it's like, five minutes, should count as a day IMO

I'd say getting a few runs in, not sure if one run counts as a 'day' of skiing, neither is hitting a backyard jump/rail

3 hours or less with boots on including sliding with skis on your feet reasonably intermittently = 1/2 day (1 hit on a rail and then sitting in your house with your boots on for 3 hours doesn’t count)
any more than 3 hours = 1 day
travel to a formal ski establishment & ski any more than 1 lap = 1 day
anything in a grey area goes to a vote.

I still consider going night skiing a day..the closes hill to my house is open till 10pm everyday

If your feet and shins are sore when you take your ski boots off you have skied a day.

The only example you provided that doesn’t constitute a “ski day” is sessioning a backyard setup for a little bit. A couple hours of actually going hard on a back yard setup I would count. You just gotta be honest about yourself to know the difference.

hiking (presumably touring/skinning?) for 5 hours for one run down is definitely a day of skiing for sure. One lap on Loveland pass on the other hand is not a “day of skiing”.

Night skiing definitely counts, even if just for 3-4 hours.

counting days should be based on the honor system, and if one of the bros violates the honor code, he’s out.

Lol who gives two shits on how "exclusive" you're day of skiing at a "resort" went? As long as you stepped into you're binding and went skiing that's all that matters

Anytime ya put the boots on for extended amount of time and are doing something ski related. Sometimes ill only take 2-3 runs in a 12hr period with my boots on because of work. I would count that as a ski day

Last year my roommates and i had a competition where the person with the least days had to sleep in a closet for a few nights. We’re in slc and we counted anytime you went into the wasatch or real mountains, so backcountry or building a kicker up there counted. It would have been cheap if you could just slide around in the backyard

I've always counted it as any day you actually ski on snow. Doesn't matter if it's a backyard session, 1 run at your local resort, or a backcountry hike up and ski down. If you ski on snow, it counts as +1 day. No summer mSnow/astro-turf hikes. Though some may disagree, ice rink snow set ups count.

I ski 26 hours a day 400 days a year, anything less than that isn't even skiing

Of course it is. All time skiing is great for different reasons but for the fun of competition why the heck not come up with some loose guides to talk about and compare experiences.

Skiing for any given time during a day. You could do one run and it would count.
