Inbound Skiing Backpack Contents

What do you carry in your pack?
I see skiers wearing them all the time while skiing in bounds and I have often wondered what they are packing around. Do you really need a backpack to carry all of your goods, if so, what are you in need of so bad that you cant fit it into your coat or pant pockets or just leave at the car until you are done. Boombox(Portable speaker.lol)? Bong? Extra gloves? First Aid kit? Is it for the look? Just curious. let me know your thoughts.

Whenever I see a backpack at the ski hill I like to think they have an entire party in there. Why else would you go to all the trouble of carrying a backpack unless you are prepared to supply the entire ski hill?
Last season I saw a guy wearing a frame backpack and it pretty much confirmed my theory. Dude had a whole PA system on there with some giant batteries. Looked like probably a 12 inch sub in his backpack speaker box. Basically turned the upper bowl into a dance party but unfortunately it was way too heavy to be practical and he didn't last very long out there.

Usually just a big water bottle but sometimes food, gopro, layers I wanna take off... I just hate stopping in the lodge or at my car for anything

I'm also always doing bootpacks at resorts and if it's a longer one it's nice to put my skis on my back

I usually keep my backpack with me when it's a pow day so I have my skins, I can stash my gloves and jacket when I get hot. I can keep Things dry easier. When it's busy I don't have to go to the lodge to get water, snacks, and beer. When ever I leave a pack of smokes in my ski pants it gets crushed and wet. Also if it's just a quiet day it's nice to stash your bag in the trees so you and your friends can pick or drop things off without going to the car.

Whenever there are skiers with packs on inbound it usually means they went into the slackcountry and then rode out back onto the main hill. So usually avalanche gear.

buuuuut they could also be having a party. They probably stuffed a boom box in there, booze, the devil’s lettuce, and a bong.

Water, wallet, multi-tool, maybe an extra shirt/layer if the weather is weird, light snacks like cliff bars, PBR, weed and paraphernalia, gum, axe body spray, phone charger, and an extra face mask.

I usually have water, snacks, and layer for my whole fam. Sometimes a pair of shoes or boots depending on how far I need to walk from the car or lodging. I also strap skis on, often a pair of kids skis on either side.

I just assumed most are carrying a 12-pack and some bacon?

Depends what you're skiing.

My pack would usually be:
- water
- extra layer
- possibly herb
- snacks
- camera
- avy gear
- possibly beer

Used to hate skiing with a pack, but they got used to it....helps makes the adjustment to backcountry lines easier

I rarely ski inbounds with a pack, my jacket has enough pockets so I can carry my usual supplies (pb&j sandos, beer). If I take a bag, it will usually be for bootbacking. I just put my pocket snacks in my back, as well as some water, and a shovel (booters).

I pull all of my avy gear out and load it up with beer cans. For some reason that sounds really bad to say out loud

usually water, beers for the squad (that get stashed on the mountain first run so when I eat shit they don't explode everywhere), herb + utilities to make it happen, food, extra gloves, a hat, sunglasses, wallet, multi tool, a thermal layer depending on the forecast, and my phone depending on the pants I wear. Sometimes I just put everything in my pockets but it is nice to have the backpack, especially if you're out with a group

I usually bring up a shitty pack I dont care about for beer so we can toss it in the woods somewhere and keep lapping with homies, moslty try to keep everything i need in my pockets. Leatherman multitool, weed or weedpen, maybe a pocket beer, snickers bar for some energy when you start to feel a bit winded, and phone.

Usually only using backpacks for resort sidecountry and touring days.

If I'm out east, I rarely ever have a backpack unless I'm trying to store stuff like a camera.

If I'm out west, I carry a variety of things that may or may not be overkill based on your perspective. It definitely maximizes my skiing time and satisfaction versus having to stop at the lodge or car.

-1.5L bladder (always end up drinking it all 3/4 through the day)
-Snacks
-Maybe a Gatorade or two if I'm carrying for other people
-Maybe beer
-Wallet
-Keys
-Battery pack (to charge up phone midday cuz it always dies)
-Gloves or mittens or liners (whatever I'm not wearing is in the pack. Had plenty of days where what I had was either too warm or too cold)
-Layers that I have removed (huge benefit of a backpack)
-Gopro + batteries
-Some basic first aid and get lost shit (nothing crazy like my hiking bag tho since skiing inbounds)
-Burrito
-Shovel
-Probe
-Trail map if I grab one
-Knife

By bladder, shovel, and extra gloves/mittens take up 2/3 of the space.

I stash four lokos in random spots around a resort not in like random trees or anything but like maybe behind a lift building or underneath a piece of Boo to the liftie’s perimeter

Not a huge fan of backpacks since my skisuit has enough space for a 12 pack if I want to do that. Usually I'm carrying beer, hard liqour in my poles and a cliff bar or two, phone with earbuds.

Insulated water bladder (Camelback), food, xtra lens, ganja, and a minimal first aid kit. I like to ski inbounds with a pack sometimes, because it's just handy

I started wearing a fanny pack over my shoulder this year - first because I'm a trend whore and thought it would look cool, but then I actually really started liking it for its functionality. I hate riding with a regular sized backpack but also when you have a ton of shit in your pockets and the fanny was a perfect middleground. 9/10 would reccomend.

Inside is pretty standard..
- Pre-rolls
- lighter
- Extra ear-buds
- candy bar
- keys
- trail map if I'm at a new place

Good to know! I have just seen more and more of them inbounds and I wondered what everyone is carrying around. Thanks for the input, going to hit up the next person I see with a pack and get a beer!lol

I was in the Bird Sanctuary at Loon last year just smoking a spliff with my friends when some dude rolls in with legit a 3 foot bong sticking out the top of his bag.

I prefer to just smoke papers but the novelty of hitting a giant piece in the middle of the woods was pretty fucking awesome haha. I'll try to dig up some pics because it was comically large

Only time I ever really wear one inbounds is when I'm working. Sooo

Extra layers, at least 2 extra pairs of gloves, extra goggles and lenses, duct tape, tie downs, extra batteries for beacons, lunch, at least 32oz of water, some hot water for tea or a quick heat up, probe and shovel, a tarp, radio system, and usually my helmet strapped to the holder.

10,000 lbs limit car jack, spare tire, extra gasket covers, snowplow (for the front) and an extra engine and transmission in case things go to shit. That’s what I carry on spring days but on deep pow days I like an extra car in my pack in case things go bad.
