Will Jay Peak ever sell?

I'm surprised but certainly not upset that Vail didn't buy Jay. Rumor has it Vail is looking at buying Smuggs, which would make sense. I can see them connecting Smuggs and Stowe.

I'm pretty sure there's extensive legal issues still plaguing Burke + Jay. I know they are in receivership and I think purchasing the resort would open a huge can of worms for a publicly traded company like vail. There's a lot of people who are owed a lot of money waiting in line for that place to be bought. Whoever buys it has to go right to the courts to sort out past debts, which the cost of the sale probably wont cover. So the new company will be sued again, for even more money.

It's gonna be a tough sell, but at some point it will. I wouldn't be surprised if an investment firm buys it, pays out the $, takes ownership of the hotels/food/real estate then sells the resorts to Alterra. The risk is high for Alterra/Vail though so a pass through sale to clear the court plus the dead money would make it more attractive. Then, the investment firm recoups on the housing cause ppl will want to go again given the pass boost. That's just my random 2 cents.

isn't it still tied up in court with the Feds? Im sure they cant do anything. being on Ikon would be sick but the way they've been improving it (hotels and eateries) makes me think they were hoping for Vail.

Been a rumor for a while with folks that live there but from what I heard the owner said not a fucking chance....which is great news

I heard that they want $200 mill to break even with the investors they owe after the fraud. To put it into perspective, stowe sold for $50 mill.

I think 200 mil is a 50% net loss for the investors, which REALLY puts it in perspective.

Id assume there is so many hurdles and red tape that a possible buyer might have to deal with that it’s turning most away. It’s also in the middle of fuck all nowhere.

I heard it on Vermont Public Radio that it was officially for sale after last season. They were asking $200 mill but it's estimated to be worth only half that. Most the investors were foreigners who invested minimium 500k to get a green card to america. They took a total of $450 mill for jay and burke and over 400 immigrants never got there $500,000 green card nor will they ever get money back from their investment. Good write up by VT digger on it.

Its basically Trumps biggest wet dream as they were not european immagrantd but rather predominately from China.

Mount Snow when they were under Peak Resorts did the same thing for their big snowmaking upgrade a few years back. EB5 money used for it all (which is a huge scam and should never be allowed at all - if you don’t have money, don’t build shit - or borrow it from a bank - it’s all funny money) anyway, Mount Snow didn’t embezzle it, or just didn’t get caught
