How to get a good camera buddy

I honestly haven't skied on film much (but trying to this year) but I would say try to have your whole crew work together on the filming. Maybe have one dude who holds the camera but everyone else should be thinking about what angles would look good, lighting, etc.

It may be a good idea to find someone who is actually more interested in creating films than skiing or at least someone who has a really good eye for design.

Depending on your age you may want to ask around or post an ad or something at your local community college or high school?

Get good enough so people actually want to film you skiing. If you slay, good filmers will gravitate towards you if you put yourself out there.

But its also hard these days since everyone posts Instagram clips of their iPhone shots.

Fr, I love photography but at the same time I want to improve my own riding. This is maybe more of a MTB related rant but I like to put a solid top to bottom run in, I don't want to session a drop/jump for 20 minutes while I video on an iphone especially when the same isn't being done for me.

I'm sort of the default filmer for our crew because I own the cameras and really like editing. With nicer cameras its kind of hard to just toss the thing to a buddy and have them understand how to operate it, and even if they do the mechanics of what makes a good fisheye or zooming shot isn't super obvious to everybody. Watching older stuff I filmed makes me cringe, it took me ages to realize how to properly use a fisheye to actually make shots good. You basically need to envision what the trick is going to look like, what way someones gonna spin or how they're gonna grab. I feel bad whenever one my friends films me because I'm constantly directing them on where to stand, how to move the camera etc.

tl;dr unless you want a dedicated filmer everyone sort of needs to know the basics of shot composition and camera operation

exactly this. Im a photographer and all I did last season was camp out on top of the park every so often for a solid 15-20 minutes to see who was throwing down and who just looked the part then approached them an stacked shots. If you rip people will notice
