Tell me about your college ski and board club

Whaddup NS,

I'm one of the presidents of the ski and board club at UNH (University of New Hampshire)

After a couple of years of stalking other clubs instagrams and facebook pages I figured why not take it here to get inspiration/input from you guys. Would be sick to hear from other exec members of other clubs and what you guys do for fund raising, events, partying, etc..

For context here's what our club does:

Dues are $100, covers 10 trips on a coach bus (no lift ticket). Most of the time we have 2 busses (110 kids) except for blackout dates on the pass we use, then we usually run one. We usually get like 200 students registered each year, most of which are freshman since freshman can't have cars here. Barely any upperclassmen are apart of the club...

We get funding for the club through the campus recreation department and we operate the same as a D3 sports club (kind've a bummer and eliminates being able to have fun unless we're breaking rules and putting the club at threat of being put on probation). We also are expected to fundraise half our budget every year and we always fall short

We have a ski and outdoor sport expo, pass printing events and a few movie premiers and this year for the first time we are doing game night to help with team building with all the members so they can meet other members of the club. The goal this year is to be more than a bus ride to and from the mountain. I saw that UVM just made a facebook page/forum and we are def gonna do this.

This year we made sure everyone on our exec board has a distinct roll and we are finally getting sponsors for the club and allocated members to do brand outreach as their sole responsibility.

Thats about it, def leaving some stuff out but would be great to hear about other clubs from other members or exec members!

ski club at depaul university - dues are $650 and that covers everything for a week long trip to breck that we're doing in december. linking with other schools when we're out there- should be gas

MTU (Michigan Tech University) all the way. Dues are 20$. Largest club on campus. Good parties. Some pretty sick events, we're all a pretty tight knit group. Free season pass with dues at the hill right next store with a previously sick park. We go out West to Targhee or Whitefish on spring-break for 200-300$ total for a week. That includes skiing, lodging, and transportation. Had saga as an event sponsor last year, plus some local ones.

Our Eboard is pretty sick thanks to guys like @Michigan_Sucks

Plymouth State University's Board and Freeski Club might have you beat there, we got nothing better to do than ski and drink in New Hampshire. Maybe we see a moose once in a while too

One thing our ski club (Clarkson University) used to do was pay for gas for carpools going to the mountain (Whiteface or Jay Peak). This keeps the upperclassman involved in the club, which is critical to having solid parties. Club subsidized weekend trips to Mt. Snow, Smuggs, and Jay Peak were legendary when I was in grad school.

Farmington Outing Club at UMF. Used to have 70+ members until a beer can was found in our meeting room after a meeting and then the club got defunded and people stopped coming and then school administration basically let it die despite the eboards best efforts :)

Fortunately we have a Ski industry program and a freeski team so people still hang and do cool shit but maybe one day someone will #makeFOCgreatagain

I've been a member of both clubs at Utah for a couple years. They do events like wax nights and movie premiers but no actual ski trips during the season. They're more there just for preseason hype but the big appeal is their season pass/brand discounts.

It's only 10 bucks to get into the club and get a t shirt

We don't have enough capital to drop deposits for running trips (like with busses and hotels) so we have a pretty solid relationship with a ski trip company here in Edmonton. I think we could get trips cheaper if we did it on our own, but outside of the finanical commitment/risk there's a ton of legwork behind running multiple ski trips over the year which would be tough with a smaller team.

Our main fundraiser is selling memberships ($10ea which gets you perks w/ bars and local shops, and access to our discounted lift tickets), selling discounted lift tickets (we sell them on consignment basis) and our incentive kickback from running trips w/ the touring company. We also "sell" sponsorship spots (sponsors get promo spots on our newsletter, posters, social media posts, etc).

Our main dealio is that we run 4 multiday trips over the course of the school year, the one I'm most hyped about is our New Year's trip, we're heading down to RED Mountain, I booked the entire hostel there for 3 nights so I'm hoping to fill that one up with a ton of groovy peeps.

We don't really do any bar nights though, the party scene at the UAlberta is kinda weird because our Student's Union doesn't want groups promoting partying which is wack. Like people party but I can't flex the amount of partying we do on trips which sucks.. but We're hosting a screening of The Collective within a couple weeks though which should be groovy, I have a contact with a Red Bull rep so he's helping me organize a sick af afterparty haha

I got a 6 person exec team, which consists of Pres, Vice Pres, Treasurer, Marketing, Event Coordinator, and Member Relations. We average around like 300 members a year. Most people just use us for the discounted lift tickets though but I have been able to link up with other student groups on campus to boost trip numbers.

Yeah I’m pretty sure our club spooked him a bit. Buncha drunk college kids asking him to sign our corn dogs. He did actually sign one though so idk

I'm a sophomore at Lewis & Clark college in Portland, Oregon. Our ski club doesn't do a whole lot, other than provide kids who need it a ride up to Hood every once in a while.

We did do one group trip up to ski bowl last year though, I think they got the lift ticket price down to like $15 which was cool. More group trips!

Florida State University surf club reppin here. Was on exec for last year which was super fun planning trips and parties

Ski club sounds rad but a pretty tough sell for these florida kids. We go on an annual ski trip out west though which is always so much fun.

Also have wakeboard club and kiteboarding club, which I'm currently the president of but kite club is dead so it pretty much just involves me and a few buddies having access to a whole shed full of kiteboarding gear which I'm definitely not complaining about.

I'm just so thankful I got super involved with these clubs my freshman year rather than greek life, they've def shaped my college experience for the best

Just arrived at Bishops university this year, so can't say much, but the club here looks rad af. 100$ jay season passes for first years, rail jam in the quad (last year seb toots judged), rail setups in nearby backyards all winter, free skiing at the in town hill every thursday through winter. pretty stoked ngl

Waddup from UVM SSC

Burlington is a rad town to go to school in and some of the best skiing in the east is right in our backyard.

We have about 2000 ish members in our club and dues are $20. The $20 gets members access to all of our events including two rail jams, a ton of movie premiers. Along with a club t-shirt, sponsor discounts, transportation to the mountains, and access to discounted season passes at Stowe, Sugarbush, Mad River Glen, Jay Peak, Smugglers Notch, and Bolton Valley.

We have our own Clubhaus in our student center at UVM and it’s a place where members can hang, watch ski movies, tune skis and boards, and get info about what’s going on in the club.

In the fall we host a skate day at Burton HQ and then do a Halloween rail jam with snow that we get from local hockey rinks.

In the winter we shred. Also we have a bigger rail jam because there’s natural snow. We usually get Sugarbush’s park crew to make the setup.

In the spring we still shred and have a bunch of tailgates at the mountains which is super fun.

Good idea for a thread. Have fun this season 🤙

There was a princeton channel on our dorm tv that showed random princeton students shit. This guy i knew uploaded a shitty ski vid he made of going slow on some half ass mogul run. I was hitting big kickers at the time so i kinda thought that shit was an embarassment to them. I think they mustve assumed no princeton students could Ski for shit. Live and learn i guess

Wuddup, I'm the Regis university ski club Prezz. We literally just started this yer, and the school doesnt give a fuk about helping clubs get going so it's a bit of a tough process but we're getting there. Got some good ideas just reading through this thread, love to hear the hype other clubs can get going, it gives me hope. But how do you guys get consistent engagement? My school is full of flakes so it's tough to get people to even meet, I'm hoping the more sick shit we do the more people will actually engage. We've got some ideas, but it's basically just me right now tryna organize like 200 "interested" people. Wish me luck and keep the good ideas coming so I can steal them all haha.

We've got the Freeride club at Boulder in Colorado. I'm not even sure what their dues are, maybe like $100/yr or something. I think that covers some basics and then members pay out of pocket for individual trips, but there's a decent # of them and to dank spots with good houses and driving/passenger planning.

I've always had older homies so never got to into the club, they're chill though. Cool headquarters to hang out in with an xbox and shitloads of ski movies. They also facilitate the Ikon Pass discount for the school, you don't even have to be a member so that's nice.

My school doesn't have a ski club, but def try to host screenings of ski movies and try to get group buy in deals on passes that work around your school, bonus points if the pass works for places with better mountains for trips and whatnot.

I went to the one in Windsor and it was just a wooden table in a dark room with a lamp
before I was able to turn back out the door, a bunch of boarders came out of the shadows with their bad attitudes and bent me over the table
torstein horgmo crawled out of one of the ceiling panels, and vlogged me getting bumfucked by some 80s ski pole they had

Yooo President of the Southern Alberta Institude of Technology Sklub checking in. Me and my buddy just rebooted the dead ski club at SAIT here this season. There was a bank account with a few hundred bucks in it and an instagram account that was it. No one knew that there was a ski club active on campus so we had to double down on reaching people. For the first few weeks we would just have a table and a popcorn stand to sell our membership cards ($10 and tons of bar perks around Calgary). Took a while but we got a good number of sales but nothing compared to one of the bigger universities around alberta.

In the past our club just piggie backed trips with the bigger schools, but I did not want our club to be the bitch of the bigger clubs so we planned our own trip to Revelstoke, got a rad package deal through the hill and got a bus. To our surprise we are almost sold out. And at $330 per seat its a great deal for the students.

I think planning trips to places outside of the easy driving distance with a "Rad Factor" like Revy helped us sell out. Hoping to do one or two more trips this year. But its doable, just two of us planned it all out!

Yessss, mad props for getting stuff running on your own without linking up with MRU of UofC. The sk'club scene in Calgary is all time.

I'm the founder and president of the Freeski team at Colorado State! (We are actually now the Freeride team since so many of our boarder friends wanted in on the team). But regardless, we are the competitive team at the school. There's another ski/board club here that's more geared towards people who just want rides up to the mountain but my team is the competitive one. I'm a Junior now which means the team is currently in its 3rd year and we've gone from 5 to 70 members. We charge $40 for membership which gets you a shirt, access to all of our sponsors, and admittance to all of our events and parties. We mainly compete in IFSA big mountain comps but this year we're starting to get into USASA freestyle stuff too. I've been able to grow this team a ton over this 3 year span and we now have a legit reputation on campus. It's a pretty grassroots/janky operation but we get support from a lot of big companies, are able to have sweet weekend trips, and we get to do practices and collaborations with some really cool places. yo homie! I'm an officer of the ski/board club at university of washington in seattle. Although we're a pretty large club with ~500 members, some only join for the ikon pass discount or to get gear deals/ go to parties. We are primarily a rideshare network which provides rides to local mountains, and we definitely want to continue doing that this year, even if we can't host events like film premiers or something.

It is looking a little tough but our current plans are to continue as planned but with certain restrictions such as masks in cars and maybe a waiver that members sign ensuring that we aren't held responsible for any cases contracted. For drivers it'll be a drive at your own risk kinda thing, but obviously that's a big ask so we'll see how it turns out. I'll keep you posted or feel free to reach out if you wanna chat

We are primarily a rideshare network which provides rides to local mountains, and we definitely want to continue doing that this year, even if we can't host events like film premiers or something.

It is looking a little tough but our current plans are to continue as planned but with certain restrictions such as masks in cars and maybe a waiver that members sign ensuring that we aren't held responsible for any cases contracted. For drivers it'll be a drive at your own risk kinda thing, but obviously that's a big ask so we'll see how it turns out. I'll keep you posted or feel free to reach out if you wanna chat
